Rated 3 out of 5 by mrgigi almost the classic
I've had a few of these in my days since the 80s classics. it's a rough approximate of the original, but the wool doesn't have the same play and the hem line does't have the roll of the original (like the neck line does). too bad because that hem line roll was one of the coolest features. still a good quality sweater, but doesn't quite have the loose feel of the classic J crew rollneck. I'm surprised, since I would think they would have the formula for reproducing the original to a tee. and so why not?

Falls under the category of "Military Ivy League," if you know what I mean. Rugged, heavy, something you'd wear in the north sea. Or to the campus dining hall. Don't size based on how the model wears it, which, to my view, is too small. Buy your measured size. It should fit a bit generous, maybe sag a little at the shoulders, and the cuffs should extend well past your wrist bone, giving you the option to cuff comfortably. This is a cold weather sweater, not something to dress up in. Function demands that the fit allow at least a heavy OCBD or flannel shirt underneath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mcgiver Ersatz imitation of the original
This sweater looks more like a crew neck with a roll collar thrown on as an abrupt afterthought. No roll up on the sleeves or roll up at the hem both which contributed to the original's inimitable panache. Fortunately, I still own and use the original given to me by my children some 25 years ago or so. That is a large size so I purchased this in a medium as the large has stretched as I have done a bit of the opposite. I'm still 5'11" but down to 160 lbs. The new medium allows no underlayment of the type shirt that you just might wear beneath it on a cold day - a flannel shirt! The sleeves on this sweater are so tight you can almost see my triceps through the material let alone feel comfortable with the under layer being pulled every which way when I move. I'll must mention the bold look of the original knit as well as the substantial heft of the yarn just isn't there. I'm disappointed to have to return this sweater.

I like the rollneck sweaters from J Crew because they fit well and are very comfortable. My winter uniform is typically one of these sweaters ( I own several in different colors) over a baselayer with a 5 pocket pant. It is warm and looks very nice.

It is often difficult.to find a really nice mans sweater. This is especially true if you are looking for turtleneck. L Crew roll Eco is however an exception, styling is very good, construction is very good, and the colors are right on.
