Product Details

A handcrafted masterpiece from Alden, the New England-based icon of old-school American shoemaking that's been around since 1884. Each boot is made in the USA using genuine Horween No. 8 shell cordovan leather (known for its shiny finish, durability and flexibility), which is vegetable tanned for six months at one of the country's oldest tanneries. They feature all of Alden's hallmark details, including its famed Goodyear welt, which means that they can be resoled again and again—so they'll last a lifetime. To make sure they do, you can send them back to Alden for resoling at any time.

  • Horween shell cordovan leather upper.
  • Cotton laces.
  • Leather lining.
  • Double oak-tanned leather outsole.
  • Made in the USA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Definitely Eye Catching I have other Alden shoes in my collection, but this is my first shell cordovan purchase. What a difference this is compared to my other shoes! Don't get me wrong, my other Alden shoes look great, but these get way more attention than my others. Several people at my work have noticed and asked about them right away. The reddish brown color can only be appreciated in person in my opinion; this is what sets it apart from other dress shoes/boots. What's also great is these were comfortable right off the bat. The leather feels real nice and comfy around my ankles. They do run 1/2 size large, so size down accordingly. My shoe size is 10 1/2 in sneakers, but I purchased these in size 10 and they fit perfectly. I have a feeling I would be buried in these shoes (hopefully not anytime soon because I'm still pretty young). November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Shoes These shoes (well, boots) are really something else. The profile and shape of the last is sleek while still providing plenty of room for comfort. The broguing and stitched details are flawless and tasteful, allowing you to wear this pair in a huge range of contexts. The shell cordovan leather these are made from needs no further praise, nor does Alden's meticulous construction. Awesome pair of boots, a purchase I surely won't regret. May 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rich Living! I bought these boots 5 years ago from JCrew and to this day they are loved. They get better with age without getting old looking. I wear mine all the time and I am not gentle on them. I wear them with jeans, suits, casual pants and they work perfectly. Who needs sneakers! Effortless care, just lace up and go. Once in awhile I polish but really not often - good to go constantly. I once had a guy, in the middle of a meeting, stop what he was saying and say, "I can't take my eyes off your shoes. Where did you get them?" These boots never wear out and the soles don't either. Gone through many laces but that is to be expected due to high wear. So worth the money! Like they say, cheap is expensive in the long run. Invest in these for a lifetime of dedicated wear, to feel rich, and always look great, and never me mainstream. October 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Alden Boot; Perfect for Dress or Casual I have numerous pairs of Alden shoes in both cordovan and leather. This particular pair is extremely comfortable. Cordovan breaks in quickly and feels like they are bespoke shoes made specifically for you foot. I ordered the 11 1/2 D in the Barrie last, that is what I also wear in the Trubalance last from Alden. I usually wear 12 D in another very popular American brand just to give you a guide as to what size you should order. I had to wait a couple months to get mine and it was well worth the wait. They are a perfect blend of dress and casual and can be worn equally well with dress pants or denim. July 31, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Essential shell cordovan purchase. As a lover of shell cordovan footwear it was inevitable that I ended up getting this particular boot. I've had this J. Crew makeup for a couple of years now and it's hands down my favorite pair of boots/shoes that I own. In particular I was drawn to the 270 degree welt, which provides a touch of sleekness on my size 12 pair. The Barrie is my foot's favorite Alden last since its roominess is forgiving and I like knowing that I can send them back to the original manufacturer to be recrafted when the time comes. And of course the shell cordovan material is tough while being easy to care for. Not only would I immediately replace these if they were tragically gone, I foresee myself picking up a second pair so I can rotate them on consecutive days. If you are considering entering the world of shell cordovan footwear this is the perfect introductory pair. July 19, 2014
