Love at first sight
April 13, 2023Last year I started wanting a pair of higher end, more stylish shoes to replace my customary boat shoes for casual wear. I wasn’t intentionally looking but I figured a suede loafer of some sort was ideal, and when I saw these online I immediately had to have them - it was love at first sight. The moment I unboxed them confirmed my initial instincts: they’re incredible shoes. They feel magnificent to wear, as they are unlined and relatively light weight, yet sturdy. The sole is leather but comfortable. And Alden got the details right for J Crew: with the slightly more casual stitching, these shoes add a little fine sprezzatura so they don’t come across as too dressy. I plan to make these my go-to shoe for casual and smart looks through spring, summer and fall.

Alden's LHS Loafers are in a class of their own.
February 11, 2023Alden's unlined suede Leisure Hand Sewn loafers are simply sublime and might just be the best lightweight loafers for warm weather style. Personally, I pair these with a Baird McNutt Irish linen button-down shirt and 770 fit medium wash jeans for an upscale, yet relaxed smart casual vibe. This loafer is built on the Van last which runs about a half-size larger than your normal U.S. Brannock size in length and width. Most choose to go a half-size down from that Brannock measurement for sockless/no show fits or true to size if you plan to wear socks. Those with a high instep may need to have the strap area stretched out a bit by a local cobbler. This specific makeup for J.Crew has a unique saddle cut out (where the penny would go), cream quarter lining, antique welt and sole edge dressing, and a single flex leather outsole for less of a break-in process. These American made loafers are absolutely worth the investment.
