Barbour® Ogston jacket

Barbour® Ogston jacket is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I stopped into a J.Crew store in New York (not looking for a jacket since I purchased a classic one by the same manufacturer last year) and came across the Ogston. The Ogston is more tailored (almost slim-fit) and sizing could be an issue. I am 5'11" 170 lbs. with 34 sleeves and typically take a medium, but the large fits me perfectly. The sleeves are long enough that I can roll them up to reveal the corduroy cuff underneath without the overall sleeve being too short (the J.Crew model seems to be wearing the jacket small). I also like the built-in 1/2 vest and the cord collar/lapel. The vest looks good and having it built-in means one less layer and hassle. All the design features, and fit, combine to make the Ogston look more like a combo sport jacket/field jacket than just a field jacket to me (more Southampton L.I. than Scotland U.K.). I wore it this morning, over an Oxford shirt in 45-degree weather, and was warm enough. Then I got an unsolicited: "You look hot!" Need I say more?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A beautifully made Barbour but runs really small A gorgeous coat but runs really small, by at least a full size, perhaps even two. I'm usually a medium at 6'1" and 170 lbs.. I consulted with the J. Crew team prior to purchasing and they told me to stick with medium. Bad advice. The sleeves stop well above my wrists and I cannot lift my arms even half way up. Feels a bit like a straight jacket. I'm in Canada and J. CREW DOES NOT PERMIT EXCHANGES. I can return the coat but would have to start from scratch with a whole new order. Really unhappy about that!!! I think it's a lousy policy and way to do business. Wish the vest was removable. It's really a mock vest, having only the first half of the front panels. The patina of the waxed cotton is the thing I like most about the coat. Looks almost like a vintage bomber jacket leather. All in all, a quality made Barbour, that purchased in the right size is probably worth the price.
