I just received this shoe and it is a great looking shoe. The classic style and Cigar Brown color is just what I was looking for. I normally wear a 9.5 however it was too large. I purchased the 9 and it fits great. The quality appears to be good and time will only tell. However, I am disappointed in J. Crew's description. I can't help but think I was mislead based on the following J. Crew description for this shoe; "to make the best shoes, you have to start with the best parts. These derby shoes are made of fine Italian leather from one the best tanneries here in the U.S." When I received the shoe, I discovered under the tongue that they are bench made in China. No where in the online description does it say made in China. There are only references to Italy and the U.S.A.. I am interested in purchasing the black pair as well, but now I want to see how they hold up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by clooney Leather upper poor quality
One of my favorite shoes; however, after a bit over a year the leather uppers started cracking above the toe cap on both shoes. I have worn them perhaps 30 times since purchasing and they are far from worn in. JC will not replace. I was told at a store that I'd have to re-purchase. While I understand the return policy, this is clearly a flawed product. At this price point, you'd expect the shoe to last longer without the upper cracking.

Very well made shoe that runs true to size. Break-in time relatively short. Excellent quality and look. Worth investing in a cedar shoe tree to keep the creases out. As long as there are still cobblers in our future, you should be able to keep these for a lifetime as they can be resoled.
