Rated 5 out of 5 by MGDC Very Nice, but not true to size
I bought this last fall, and have worn it almost constantly. It's a really nice update on traditional fatigue jackets, but is light enough to be a 3-season jacket.
Unlike other reviewers, however, I found this jacket to be sized very large. I'm 5'9", 145 pounds and normally wear a small in J. Crew tops and jackets. Not here - I had to go down to the x-small. The small fit me like a baggy trench coat - the sleeves went right over my knuckles and it felt as though I could have worn two sweaters underneath it and still had room to spare.
Best to try this on before buying - it seems that sizing may not be entirely consistent with J. Crew standards.

Overall, this is an amazingly unique jacket with excellent construction. The full metal zipper is hearty and provides an industrial look. The hooded collar stays upright with minimal side flair. The buttoned cargo pockets are functional with minimal bulge. The front hand pockets are a welcome detail (which is not found on the Garrison Fatigue Jacket). The green color is brighter than most military jackets, which does require a bit of confidence and color coordination.

Love this jacket. Originally tried it on in store. Fits true to size. Comfortable. Enough weight to keep you warm during the fall. Don't think it would keep you warm as it got closer to the winter months though. I only had one concern upon leaving J. Crew...
I left empty handed because I'll be moving to the Southern Hemisphere in November and didn't know if I could justify a Fall jacket when I was moving back into Summer. So I went home and thought it over. My main concern with this was the lack of water resistance. I knew going into it that the jacket/material wouldn't be waterproof. But, if I was going to spend the full price on this item I wanted more than just style, I wanted function. So with the help of just a little bit of wash-in waterproofing we turned this jacket into the best field jacket I could have hoped for.
Great on it's own! Even better with just a little help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jack Great fit; bit "bright"
I'm 5'9", lean, and usually wear a medium for outerwear pieces from J.Crew. This fits perfectly, notably around the high arm holes and snug, conforming shoulders. The sleeves are also the right length (I would guess 32-33"), although for me that meant using the smaller of the two buttoning options at the cuffs so that they don't go too far past my wrists.
The "bright" comment in the subject line isn't a complaint, it's just something to be aware of: this jacket color is more bold/bright than the muted model pic on this page suggests. This was noted in another review, so consider this confirmation of that trait. Also note that the collar, when the hood is packed away, is a bit chunky and thick. I like it, and the collar stands up just fine and doesn't flare out when not zipped or buttoned all the way up, but again the picture of the model doesn't show this feature accurately. You may have to unpack the hood and roll to your liking if you purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rashidj Iconic, Timeless and Eye-Catching
I collect many true-to-size jackets, but J. Crew did a masterful job with this gem (I've been a J. Crew aficionado for over a decade). It's comfortable, versatile, impeccably tailored, and quite eye-catching, in terms overall style. It looks terrific with a t-shirt and pair of worn-in jeans, a night out on the town, or with a dress shirt and tie, slacks, and dress shoes. Hands down, this is a J. Crew masterpiece, well worth the dollars spent. Thank you, as always, J. Crew, for creating a well-crafted piece that's one of a kind.
