This is a great alternative to the vintage cotton tee. The fabric is more substantial than vintage cotton, yet more broken-in than painter. Unlike the others, I don't *think* these will be as prone to getting little holes. Also, the colors are great. They are very rich. If you've tried the short-sleeve version, note that the long-sleeve ones are not as boxy (though they are still loose). Perhaps they seem more tailored because they are a little longer; it is a great balance between being carefree yet looking nice. I have a boxy torso and for me, they fit TTS (I usually wear the same size for long-sleeve vintage cotton and painter, and got the same size for this).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Samantha Perfect fit.
This is the shirt I've dreamed of but never knew existed until I purchased & wore it. I ordered it in four colors: jade, navy, white, and clay. I wore an oatmeal-colored cotton bra under the jade tee and the jade dye rubbed off all over it. Maybe hand wash or simply just rinse and dry before wearing, especially the darker, more vibrant colors. (J.Crew does warn of color transfer on the tag.) Otherwise, this might be the most perfect shirt J.Crew has come out with in the past few years -- I'd buy it over and over.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Carrie It might dye your skin!
I absolutely love the style and color of this tee. In fact, I've been seriously thinking about buying a few more. However, be warned that depending on the color, the dye could end up dying your skin. I bought the deep green one on sale and it (even after washing) dyed my arms and arm pits a lovely shade of green. The color came off after a good scrubbing; it's just not what I'd expect from a tee shirt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Huxley Cute style, great color, poor quality
I just loved the rose peach color of this tee, but the quality has been a tremendous disappointment. The first day I wore the shirt, I got a tiny spot on the front, so I took a little water and handsoap to it - mild handsoap (the same thing I always do for spots). Well, I barely rubbed at the spot, when a white blotch formed where the dye had simply vanished. The tee now looks as though it has a sand dollar sized bleach stain on the front. This is the first time the color of a shirt has simply vanished like this. Also, the shirt, after two washes, developed a small hole at the hip. On the plus side, no pilling so far.
I've given up on J Crew tees. I have one that I got as an undergrad twenty years ago. It has no holes, no white spots where the color ran away, no threadbare patches, no pilling. It's perfect (if out of style). Yet every J Crew tee I've purchased in the last five years has fallen apart in one way or another. Such a shame.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Maggie Not slightly loose fit
I was disappointed that the sizing was not as described. The short sleeve version of this tee is wider and a slightly loose fit. I wear a small or xs in the short sleeve but when I received the long sleeve tees, they were cut much smaller. I needed to reorder all of them in medium. Aside from that I like the style very much and the colors are beautiful.
