Lovely dress in theory - the front stock image of the model is swoon-worthy. But... the exposed back zip just ruins an otherwise timeless piece. Please just do away with them already? They look off-trend and cheap, and certainly not what I want on a dress that will be a staple closet investment for years to come. A number of this summer's dresses had them. The trend is over. Also, I'm 32, 5'4", 34A and 110 pounds and am always, always, a 000 or 00. The cut of these armholes was wrong, top too tight and made me look as if I had arm fat. Bra-wearing was difficult. A strapless looked wrong beneath it and I had to make mine a racerback to keep it from peeking out. Back it went. Please J. Crew - the lines, materials and looks of the dresses have improved, and are 99% beautiful, but let's be done with this zipper business and keep some consistency with sizing.

How excited was I when I saw this dress online!?! And I waited by the door for it to be delivered. However, this dress falls short for me. The draping of the sleeves is cut so short that is shows my bra strap from the front. In the back it cuts in too far as well. The best way to describe it was borderline-racer back. I could maybe steam it so the sleeves are more flattering in the front, but that would only expose the back more!
The bottom had a nice fit, but I would have preferred ordering the tall to give that extra professional polish.
The fiery red is a great color and I was looking forward to that the most. Additionally, there is an exposed gold zipper which just draws attention to places I would prefer not.
I'm sure it will work for other frames, but it was not a winner for me.

I agree with the previous reviewer. The way the arm is cut is strange and highly unflattering. The zipper on the back makes an otherwise high quality work dress seem cheap.

Had to have this dress after seeing the September catalogue. Ordered fiery sunset in my normal size 2. Color is beautiful - bright, more red than orange. Love the flutter ruffle sleeves; material is more thin but can wrinkle easily. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me. Ran very small in the middle around the waist/stomach. I'm 5'6", 135 pounds, straight frame and was surprised the stomach area was tight. The top breast/back area is disproportionately large - lots of material. I'm a 34A so I do have a small chest, but a B cup woman would have a lot of extra material too. Most disappointing part of the dress is the beautiful ruffles around the shoulders. Ruffles aren't sleeves that drape over your shoulders; rather they are short and awkward falling on top. The "straps" are very narrow and come inward too much so lots of skin showing between the strap and armpit, making "arm fat" buldge. Not very attractive!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MEBL Beautiful dress for work and many occasions!
I purchased this dress as soon as It was posted on the website, I simply felt in love with it and imagine it could be a great addition to my work wardrobe. There was no review at the time on the website, so I've decide to order it in 2 sizes to be able to compare and get the right sizing. I ordered my usual size 6 and also an 8 in regular just in case it would run small (the tall that I usually order, was not available at the time). I've notice that with dresses that are more straight/pencil skirt its sometime better to size up with some JCrew styles. So for this dress I did have to size up, the size 8 fit perfectly. The overall dress runs a little smaller compare to most of the JCrew dresses I've purchased (bust, waist and bottom runs a bit smaller). The dress I really beautiful, super feminine, the blue colour is great and different from a normal navy.
