Product Details

Meet Penny, our newest square-neck peasant top that's a year-round must. We made this one in a pretty vintage pattern from Liberty Art Fabrics, the British print house that's been known for its mood-lifting florals since 1875. This motif in particular was originally created in 1883 and if you look closely, you'll notice birds "stealing" strawberries, hence the name...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The key to good fit... I first got this style in another pattern and it looked like a tent on me so I sent it back. I'm 5' 2" and my thought was, it's huge and I'm too short for this style. When I saw this Liberty print, I thought ok maybe I'll size down and give it a try just for the print. I am so glad I did because I love it, my husband loves it and I get loads of compliments. The print is georgous and the (sized down) style really cute with skinny jeans and ankle boots. I feel the skinny jeans (or pants) are the balance to this tops fullness. The key to the good fit is to SIZE DOWN...and be sure to try on with skinny pants for best look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fabric I loved this top the moment I saw it in the store. The print is very charming and unlike the other reviewers, I didn't have a problem with the fit. My only objection is that it runs a little shorter than tops I normally wear but I think that's just the style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unique and Flattering I don't think I would have looked twice at this if I'd seen it on the website, but I was shopping in a J. Crew store, and seeing it in person really caught my eye. The print (Liberty) is gorgeous, the colors are pretty and vibrant in a muted way. The square neckline (front and back) is super flattering and a very nice change from all my usual button-up blouses. I can dress this up in the winter with a black skirt and tights and down in the summer with jeans or shorts. I will say, if you're ordering it online, to go down at least one size. I tried on my regular size 6 first and it was super puffy and blousy in the sleeves and in the front. Going down one size still stayed true to the shape but took the puffiness factor way down. This is a very pretty and unique top and I'd definitely recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful Print with Strange Fit This shirt is unique in a patterned material that catches the eye, but the fit is all wrong. If you look similar to the model in the description, then you should buy this shirt! A peasant style shirt is supposed to be a bit full, but I tried my usual size in shirts--14 & it was overly full & hung on me like a rag doll. I tried the 12 & the fit was good in the bust area & bunched up in the upper-center-back-shoulder area with excess fabric. The waist sweep has adequate room, no problems there. This shirt will look great on some; although, I suggest trying it on in the store before purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 5 stars for fabric, 1 star for design So I'm giving the shirt three stars. The fabric is beautiful. I've been hoping for years that the Strawberry Thief pattern would return to the JCrew lineup. I missed it last time and have regretted that. I was so happy when it reappeared online. Even though I suspected the design of the Penny shirt was unflattering to me, I had to have that pattern. Well, the shirt is going back. The smallest available size is huge and looks ridiculous on me. The sleeves are much more voluminous than they appear in the picture. I think you have to be tall and a bit curvy to make the shirt look good, and I am neither. Please, JCrew, I'm begging you, make a classic button up or even a popover shirt in this fabric. (I'd prefer the button up, though.). I will buy multiples and wear them to shreds. The peasant style of this shirt is just not flattering to most figures. But the fabric is beautiful.
