My short 12 year old -about 4'10", 90 lbs- fits perfectly into size 12 long pants right now. Frankie shorts have always run small, so this year she's wearing size 14 Frankies that I picked up on sale last year. The hip and the length fit great but the waist is too big so she has them slightly tightened - they've got the adjustable waist. She's going through a growth spurt and the summer sales started so I just ordered 4 pairs of these in size 16. The quality and style is the same as previous years but the waist was not adjustable anymore! I went back and read the description - size 14 and 16 do not have adjustable waists!? Why not, J. Crew? Size 16 is actually HUGE, about the size of women's regular size 2. I can almost wear it and I wear size 4. I realized I should have ordered women's 3" chino shorts in size 00 instead of Crewcuts size 16 as the next size up! If your daughter is still not quite adult size and preen skinny, size 16 will be way too big for her.

My daughters have worn these shorts for years. This year, the cinching at the waist was removed. Wish they had either cinching at the waist or belt loops. If the waist isn't PERFECT, they are tough to wear.

My daughter is between sizes so I order 5 colors in a size 14. The size 12's from last year were a little tight. I ordered this short because it came with an adjustable waist. Well it used to. I received one color in a 14 with an adjustable waist and the other ones did not have an adjustable waist. I am so disappointed. An adjustable waist should be in everything they make for kids. So annoyed with JCREW. It says on the website adjustable waist is in sizes 2-12. Then why did I get one on the size 14 shorts with an adjustable waist....

Love, Love, Love J.Crew & Crewcuts clothing!! The Girls shorts still NEED to have the elastic waist offered in Size 14. My daughter can't be the only girl who has inched into Sz.14 and still has a VERY tiny waist.
The shorts fall right down to her ankles, so I will have to take them to a seamstress that 'might' be able to adjust the waist for her.
It is unfortunate as we love the colors offered and the quality.

Wait - what?!?!? No adjustable waist in 14 & 16? Why on earth would you do that JCrew? Both the Frankie and Bermudas have been our go-to shorts for years. Fantastic style, cut and colors! Now I have to find another brand because we can't adjust the waist. My daughter is on the thin side so the 12 fits her in the waist but we need more length and have to go up to a 14. On the Frankie short, there are no belt loops and no adjustable waist which means these no longer work. Such a terrible shame. Please, please, PLEASE add adjustable waists!!!!
