Product Details

We feel no guy should go without a properly made pair of selvedge chinos. Selvedge is a nod to the early 19th century, when fabric was woven on narrow looms and the edges were sewn together to create a "self edge" that helped prevent fraying (a colored thread was often incorporated to help the mill tell fabrics apart). We continue this great tradition with a small-batch, rigid cotton twill that's woven in Japan. The dense, unwashed fabric will slowly fade, break in and "whisker," just like a pair of jeans. (The more you wear them, the better they get. Good thing they're built to last.)

Wallace & Barnes Japanese selvedge chino is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Style Chino I highly recommend these chinos for style, value and craftsmanship. I have worn them about 10 times and they are starting to truly fit me well. I am normally a 32"x32" and did order down one size on the waist which proved to be a smart move. I like the fact in order to make them unique to me I need to put the wear time in for a great long-term fit. The attention-to-detail flap back pockets with buttons are a special standout perk. The value comes into play for me is looking forward to wearing this timeless style chino for many years to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from who knew . . . I was sceptical when I saw the price of these chinos & the current buzzwords "Japanese" & "Selvedge" but my curiosity got the best of me & I purchased a pair. The quality & construction are something Wallace & Barnes should be proud of. The chinos remind me of a duck fabric or a mid-weight denim as it has a fair amount of heft to them. The construction is incredible & I was so impressed I turned the chinos inside out to inspect them. My only complaints, are as follows: 1. these are vanity sized & it is near impossible to find accurate measurements. I returned my pair in size 34 & am waiting for an exchange in 33. 2. a pair of chinos so expensive you should be able yo have them hemmed to your exact length like you used to be able to do with J. Crew suits a few years ago. those are my only complaints. awaiting my sized down pair & have my fingers crossed they fit & I'll be able to grab a pair in Navy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best chinos out there. I've been looking for a good pair of chinos for a long while and these are clearly the best I've come across. The quality and the charactor of the fabric is top notch and the color is perfect. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 for style was because my hips are very narrow so they are slightly baggy for me there, but this sizing could be a plus for those with an average build. As they are unwashed (even though sanforized) look for about .75" shrinkage in the inseam with cold machine wash and hang dry. I highly recomend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A trip to 38 Lamb's Conduit Street, London WC1N 3L I couldn't believe that I was trekking all the way from the Regent's St shop to Holborn for an expensive pair of Chino's. Thank God I did, because when I arrived at the quietly immaculate J Crew shop the superior stock and service was worth the trip. The sales men really know their stuff and we spent a pleasant time discussing clothes. Two months later, after almost continuous wear I think these Chino's are simply the best pair of trousers I've ever bought, I wish I'd purchased a few more pairs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive, but worth it! Sizing: These do run large, so you’ll need to size down if you want a slim/trim fit. I normally wear a 32x32 in similar brands (vanity sized); I had to size down to a 31x32 to get a similar slim fit. You may need to order a few different sizes to nail the right fit but it’s worth it. Quality: Overall, great. The fabric is super stiff at first but gets smoother and more flexible the more often you wear it. The plastic buttons leave something to be desired and the stitching that holds them down is questionably weak. I’d recommend reinforcing the button stitching (especially the top button) should yours work their way loose. Everything else is good to go and on par with other similar brands in this niche market. Value: These pants are certainly not cheap, but the quality that you get is certainly visible and tangible. After wearing these for a few months, I cannot recommend a better selvedge chino on the #menswear market.
