As a previous reviewer touched on, the "remastered" version is far inferior to the original Jacks. The remastered version seems significantly more cheaply made and shortcutted. The overall design of the shoe is not as slim as the original. The smile on the tip of the shoe isn't as wide. The label on the back of the heel is painted on, not pressed-on as with the earlier versions. The shoe laces no longer have the metal tips. The eyelets on the side of the shoe are now lower so they sink in to the rubber. The original version had the eyelets centered on the canvas, which was excellent for ventilation. The cursive signature (such a classic touch) is no longer included on the tongue. I made the mistake of assuming that Jacks were like Chucks and Stan Smiths, in that they would always be around and never change. I was wrong! I wish I had known ahead of time and stocked up on the old version. Come on Converse, bring back the original!

J.Crew has a release of these shoes that are far superior to the normal Jack Purcell release, this release is far from it. The "Remastered" description in the title of these shoes seems to suggest that they are those superior shoes and is the reason why I bought them. I was very disappointed to find out that the shoes I received were the standard Jack Purcells that do not have the metal tipped laces and are also lacking in the distressed look but more important feel. On top of that, they are also lacking the logo image on the tongue and heel. I blame myself for assuming that these shoes are the same they have released every year for the last 7 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jcrew good show, but squeaks
I love the style/look of the shoe and the fit is right on, but after wearing them for a few hours my feet get sweaty and they squeak on the inside. It makes a squeaky sound when my heel rubs the back support. Maybe I need to break them in more for that to go away.

Rated 4 out of 5 by chaser Unique twist on a classic
Wore them 16 hours a day in DC for 3 days. No arch support but fit my flat feet fine. True to size with good cushioning and breathability in 90 degrees. Too early for real quality assessment but holding up nicely so far.
Go great with chinos or shorts

Rated 1 out of 5 by CaliforniaGirl NOT THE SAME AS STYLE GUIDE
The shoes that are shown in the style guide have the 'Jack Purcell' logo on tongue which is obviously absent from the ones they actually sell. Not to mention an overall decrease in quality in comparison to the original JPs. I would expect J.Crew to not falsely advertise their products and to carry the better, 'real' version of this iconic shoe. Overall it is such a disappointment.
FYI I took my normal Converse/Jack Purcell/Vans/Nike size.
