484 Japanese selvedge jean in raw indigo
Product Details

Our slimmest fit yet, for guys who like their pants slim, not skinny. This jean is for the denim purist: It's made from genuine raw indigo selvedge cotton woven at one of Japan's oldest and most renowned mills. For those not in the know, raw denim (also called "rigid" or "dry denim") feels stiffer at first and then fades and distresses according to the individual wearer; in other words, these are as authentic as it gets.

  • Selvedge cotton.
  • Button fly.
  • Traditional 5-pocket styling.
  • Machine wash.
  • Import.
  • Since this item is indigo dyed, it's prone to crocking, or color transfer, so wear (and wash) it with dark colors till it's worn in.
Size & Fit Details
  • Sits below waist.
  • Extra slim through hip and thigh, with our narrowest leg.
  • 14" leg opening (based on size 32/32).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Raw Denim Jeans out there The cut of the 484 jeans are amazing, far superior than a lot of pricier brands. These indigo raw selvedge jeans have a great color, drape and feel. I wear them cuffed to show the selvedge stitching. These are so versatile they have become my go to pair of jeans. They look great with a tee shirt, henley, sport coat, button up (w/or w/o a tie), a vest and etc... They pair awesome with shoes, boots or sneakers. Do not be afraid to cuff or double cuff these bad boys. Due to the raw denim they are rough and break in with time. I have two pair, one that has never been washed and another that has only been lightly washed after 8 months of wear. The fading is beyond amazing. In my humble opinion, all 484's are a must buy, put these at the top of the list. Side bar: Would really like to see some more 484's heavily distressed, tore and tattered. May 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this raw denim jean I am a woman who regularly wears men's jeans because I like the way they fit. Having grown up wearing a certain brand out of SF (especially the similar "shrink to fit" jeans), I love how much more durable men's jeans feel. Why buy women's "boyfriend" jeans when you can buy real boy jeans and get the authentic fit? These jeans are great. I love how they are cut and how they fit. I wash my jeans every 2 - 3 wears so I am not one to preserve the stiff feel and wear my jeans 100 times before they are washed. But, rather, I like how this denim shrinks after the first wash and fades over time (the color fades great). I bought these jeans in the same size I wear in the pre-washed versions and they shrank perfectly to size (I own two pairs in different sizes based on how close fitting or loose I feel like wearing my jeans). I will continue to buy 484 slim jeans as long as JCrew makes them. I also own them in ivory and white and get LOTS of compliments on all of them all the time. July 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Long Term Review I'm not writing this to argue that raw denim is for everyone, but my relationship with my J. Crew raw indigo 484's has been as steadfast and solid for the better part of three years as those with my dog and fiancee. They have taken steps on five continents and ocean dips in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. After about 24 months the crotch had worn to critical levels, requiring a thorough rebuild of the inner thighs, patches under both knees, and a re-hemming; in my opinion, a small price to pay for 500+ days of having the best and most authentic denim in any room I have entered. I own four other pairs of 484's in other fabrics, but I only have one pair of raw's and I intend to wear them forever. Long live the king! January 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by High quality, excellent style, unique This review is coming from an ordinary guy, who never, in his wildest dreams, would have spent over $100 on a pair of jeans several years ago: You know your jeans are different when they come in their own little canvas tote bag. These jeans, while insanely expensive, are different from regular blue jeans. The quality is much higher, and they just look and feel completely different. They run a little tighter, but that could just require some breaking in. The leg opening is significantly smaller. I have trouble just fitting my size 12 foot through the opening, so beware if you have an even larger foot or plan on wearing these with boots with a large opening. The details, styling, color, etc. are all great. I also bought a pair of the 484 Selvedge Resin Crinkle Wash jeans, and it is no comparison. If you are looking for a Raw Selvedge look, these are the jeans you want. July 11, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by WTF I have three pairs of these jean ( love them and rank them 4 stars) that I purchased over the the past two years - one in a Crew shop and two online. I was really impressed by the consistency of fit and they are made to last. That said, the past few ordering efforts has been bazaar, i.e. 2" inches shorter or 2 sizes smaller (And No I have't put on any weight). My question to JCrew is WTF? Do I need to order 6 pairs and hope one fits like the pair I have on right now? August 26, 2014
