Tokyo-based nanamica (which means "house of the seven seas" in Japanese) shakes up the everyday with a fresh take on necessity. The brand launched in 2003, when Eiichiro Homma—with 18 years of technical outdoor clothing design experience under his belt—crossed paths with designer Takashi Imaki and discovered a shared vision to create things they'd never seen before, all constructed to withstand weather extremes (as well as the test of time). "We source the most advanced functional fabrics, then hone our designs down to the smallest details," says Homma. Take this jacket, for instance: The soutien collar coat features a classic A-line, macintosh-style silhouette, with reinforced Gore-Tex—and it's fully lined (so it's as warm as it is sleek). Finished with a corduroy collar, button closures and adjustable button cuffs, it's a state-of-the-art update to the tailored topcoat that's been a gentlemanly essential for the better part of a century.
