Rated 4 out of 5 by mbrown Great Jeans!
These jeans are pretty good overall. Not sure what the other reviewers were complaining about--these need a few washes to break in.
The fit is great, and is NOT the same as the slim straight fit. They are about an inch smaller at the ankles and throughout. Just the right skinniness factor without having to move to Portland and grow a mustache. Length and waist are true to size and are right on the money for me, at least.
The color is nice and dark, and will lighten up over time. The denim itself is soft and is clearly a step above the normal denim offered by the crew.
I could use some more crinkle on these, since, you know, they are supposed to be crinkle jeans, but hey...
Overall, nice jeans! Wash them inside out and with like colors, and never, ever put them in the dryer. The energy and style gods will both smile.

I simply love these jeans: they're snug and shapely without being tight, they're durable and heavy and still soft, and the colour is deep and a great match for just about anything.
This is definitely my preferred fit of J Crew denim, having found the 484 a touch tight and the 1040/Slim Straight rather baggy.

The jeans arrived on schedule, fit like a glove and look even better after a few washings.

I'm. Raw jeans guy and decIded to buy these to experiment on how they age or fade with wear. Wore these about 5 months a not much fading, but do see some signs of age. These will be tough to break in (for fading that is, not comfort). The jeans are very comfortable from the first wear, largely due to the fact the fabric is so light for jeans....I'd guess about 10 to 11 oz. these are great for the summer. By the way, these jeans stretch about a whole size I. The waist and thighs.

First the Good: nice trim cut; great fabric.
Now the Bad: I just don't understand J. Crew's sizing logic. I have a 484 Jean in Japanese selvedge in the same size but there's a big difference in their waists. The 770 definitely runs small.
And last the Ugly: the size of the back pockets are way out of proportion to the rest of the pants. They're too darn big! J. Crew, if you're listening, I would suggest sizing them down to the size of the 484 back pockets or, if you don't that idea, then to the proportion of Levi's 501 back pockets.
