Rated 2 out of 5 by Jason Not up to Par on Quality
While I adore the fit and styling on this sweater, I worry like no tomorrow when I wear it. The reason being, that the sweater has a really bad tendency to pill. Simply crossing my arms in the sweater leads to pilling, and so does any contact of the sweater with anything really. I cannot wear the sweater and just live a little because I know that it will get ruined.
It's not worth the hassle, and my other cashmere sweaters are much more pill-resistant. I will avoid JCrew cashmere as a whole in the future.

I buy almost everything I wear from Jcrew and Over the years I've bought many, many pieces of cashmere. Recently I tried a different brand (at a much lower price) and to my surprise, the sweater didn't pill after the first, second or even third time I wore it. That's been my experience with J Crew cashmere. As much as I admire and love the brand, the quality of the cashmere is just unacceptable. I wish I had all of the money back for the sweaters i've bought over the years only to replace them one or two seasons later simply because they wore so badly. If this truly were a heritage piece that you only had to buy once, it would be worth the money. As is, it definitely isn't.

I'm a big believer in two things:
1. J. Crew and their quality
2. Taking good care of cashmere (hand washing, letting it rest for a few days after wearing, avoiding abrasive materials, etc.)
Unfortunately this cashmere crewneck really let me down in the quality. Perhaps its an "off-year" for J. Crew as I know they typically use great materials, but within a day this sweater was already pilling and stretching (again, no abrasive materials, no crazy gymnastics).
I've worn it maybe 4-5 times now and each time feel a bit more self conscious about the pilling thats happening on the sleeves and the stretched out bottom hem (bel-bottom sweater effect).
I really like J. Crew, but would really rethink purchasing another sweater from them in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lindau WORST QUALITY!
This truely is the lowest quality sweater I ever had. It gives off fluff without even having it washed but after washing the only thing you can do is throw it in the garbage! So disappointed with this expensive item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by aTallDrinkofWater boyfriend sweater for a woman
Not sure how many women will be reading this review, but I'm a woman who purchased this sweater in one size down from my regular women's top size to achieve a boyfriend fit - I usually wear women's large and ordered men's medium in this. It's perfect - just slouchy enough without being too big or sloppy. I am 6 ft tall, though, so that may be a factor. The cashmere seems high quality to me - a good midweight, very soft, and minimal pilling, if any.
