Rated 2 out of 5 by hazel Great fit, but fades rapidly
I've bought 3-4 of these so far for my husband. He loves the fit and finds them better fitting than any other chinos around.
But they are very difficult to maintain - first they gather lint very easily, and second, they fade out rapidly and start looking like they are years old in just a few months.
I only have them dry cleaned, but still they age very fast. This problem is most pronounced in the black and what jcrew calls navy pants.
Maybe I would recommend the lighter colors, where this problem is not so visible, but I would definitely NOT recommend the black, navy or I suspect other dark shades.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SartorialBond More Casual Than Dressy
I don't write reviews often, but believe JCrew designers can tweak the product to make the 484 Essential Chino an office staple beyond Casual Fridays.
- 484 Fit is the slimmest cut for the svelte man
- Nicer lining and pockets vs. 484 Broken-In Chino
- For a dressier chino, buttons are similar to the casual 484 BI Chino
- No codpiece / crotch padding (found in dressier pants#
- No center seam in the waistband if your waistline changes
- Difficulty in creating a center crease
The EC is the dressiest pants in the 484 cut. The Bowery Slim line has nicer fabrics and detailing, but the cut in the hips are baggier than the 484.
For a dressier look #pair with dress shoes), pressing a center crease in the EC is not easy. You cannot line up the side seams and press the iron for a center crease without creating unbalanced side seams as there is a curve to the pattern pieces. Also, you need to pull taut the fabric on the side seams and press to prevent the fabric from bunching up.

Nice quality pair of pants. Fit is great.
Really like them.
Wore them with a Navy blazer for a wedding and had some nice comments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Evan Every day, go-to trousers
I buy a few pairs of these--in different colors--a year. They last through the year with no problems. Eventually, the hem on the bottom of the legs will fray, but that is from constant wear, tear, and washings. I recently replaced a pair I bought in spring 2013. These are some of my favorite trousers and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants something that runs a bit slimmer while looking put together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SirReginaldofHighland Just a bit tight
The 484 cut is just a bit too tight. I've bought the style before, but started running and doing leg workouts and now they're too tight in the thighs. I love the slim look so I went with the Urban slim fit, which has more room. If you want the slim fit and you've got skinny legs and no butt, then this is an amazing fit. Otherwise, go for the urban slim.
