if it were socially acceptable i would only wear this shirt. i mean, literally: all day, every day. could sleep in it, go to work in it, etc.

While it is "cut more narrowly," if you stick with your charted J. Crew size, i.e., don't size down, this will give you a trim but comfortable fit. I'm 6.1, 190 pounds, and the Large is perfect. Trim but comfortable, with just enough room in the chest and waist so that the shirt not only looks good when I'm standing but also lets me breathe when I sit or bend down.
Fabric and details, like the buttons, seem to be good quality.
I only wish the collar were a little bigger and had more of a roll.

I buy a lot of j.crew button downs...like, a lot of them. Overall they all fit well, and the slim fit is great if you're on the thinner or more athletic build side. I have found that some shirts are made w/ better material than others, and this is one of the good ones. Mostly wrinkle free out of the dryer. Soft but still feels strong, like it will last many wearings. Classic look to wear w/ dark jeans or chinos, under a sweater or untucked. Probably also looks cool with shorts and rolled up sleeves, I'll let you know when this Boston winter subsides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeff An essential item
Oxford shirts (especially in light blue or white) are a classic, ubiquitous shirt. It's an essential item for those who prefer their casual wear to be more than just a t-shirt and J.Crew separates itself from other stores by creating a pretty high-quality shirt at an affordable price (aka, when there's a 30% off sale).
I've enjoyed the classic white and light blue ones that I picked up so much that I went ahead and purchased some more vibrant colors from the tonal cotton selection. Looking forward to seeing what new colors are for sale in Spring.

Although I usually wait until something goes on sale, I made an exception for this shirt. The color is perfect - slightly darker than in the pictures - as is the fit, and oxford cloth only gets better with time. The collar is too narrow for a tie, but is the perfect length for a no-tie look. A beefy collar would look out of place on this shirt.
If you're slim, buy one (or several). You won't regret it.
