Wallace & Barnes straight-fit jean in Japanese selvedge denim
essentials inspired by traditional workwear, military surplus, vintage uniforms and classic outdoor gear. This 100 percent cotton selvedge denim comes from the renowned Nihon Menpu mill in Japan, which, when it comes to authenticity, is as good as it gets. This esteemed mill's experienced artisans weave denim on vintage looms, so the resulting fabric is the kind your grandfather would have picked up way back in the day. After the fabric is made, it's cut and sewn in the U.S. into these durable pairs. The fit is as genuine as the denim itself: straight through the hip and thigh, with a straight leg. "Selvedge" refers to the self-finished edge of a piece of fabric, a tightly woven band that keeps the hem from unraveling and fraying. Flip the cuffs to see the selvedge line, a sign of denim that's built to last.

What customers are saying:
Most customers are really impressed with the quality and durability of these jeans, highlighting the premium Japanese denim, sturdy construction, and classic style. They appreciated the mid to high rise design and the overall weight of the fabric that promises a long life. One customer suggested trying a size down since the jeans can run a bit oversized, especially if you're looking for a more tailored fit. Overall, they see these jeans as a solid investment that brings both style and substance to their wardrobe.

Quality matches price for Made in USA denim
July 12, 2025These fit like old 501's, high in the waist and loose in the legs. Quality is excellent, the Japanese denim is a beautiful deep indigo with slightly hairy texture, and the weight promises many years of wear ahead. A pair of jeans like these should be considered an investment, like a quality leather jacket or a pair of boots.

Top-tier quality!
May 1, 2025Top-tier quality! Genuine Japanese denim, expertly crafted right here in the USA. (In fact, I’m wearing them as I type this — talk about a hands-on review.) This is the pair you’ll keep reaching for year after year. They just don’t make denim like this anymore... but thankfully, someone still does.

The perfect pant
April 30, 2025LOVE these jeans so much. They’re a tad long BUT if you enjoy a look with a high cuff (couple inches) this is a great pair. Highly recommended.

Poorly Tailored Jeans
December 13, 2024I was so excited to purchase these American-made Japanese Selvedge Denim Jeans. I had deliberated about this purchase for a year because it's a significant expenditure at nearly $300. When I received them and tried them on, it was clear they were like Clown Pants. They were so oversized. I washed them as directed and hoped they would shrink to fit, as I ordered the correct size. Even after washing them twice, the last time in hot water and hot dryer, the legs are still enormous. I'm a big guy at over 6 feet and a husky build, but I'm still swimming in these jeans. I'm sad that I paid $300 for these and now I'm out of pocket for jeans I'll never wear.
