Great but a bit squeaky when you wear it

Such a great barn jacket. The shiny fabric makes this barn jacket look chic and elevated.

I understand the fit was described as "relaxed", but shoulders are so huge! it makes the whole jacket look square and bulky, not flattering. The concept of "dropped" shoulders works in soft fabrics, not in this case when the fabric is stiff, which makes shoulders sticking out too far. I tried it with sweaters, still doesn't look good. Otherwise, the jacket is well made and looks great with all my other J Crew stuff, I'd love it if it was smaller. (and I'm not even narrow-shouldered girl, my back is pretty wide, by bras are 38B for reference).

Beautiful camp coat, but the arms are quite short compared to other crew barn jackets.

I purchased the Collection trench coat in laminated linen in Pale Bone at the end of 2023, which other than the amazing JCrew cashmere I've snagged at great prices over the years, is one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe ever. So when I saw this shorter version in black I knew I would love it as much and get even more use due to the sporty length. When the big sale hit, as always, the dilemma is SIZING. The first trench coat was a M and fit perfectly, but as we all know, past sizing is not indicative of future fit. I rely on reviews for sizing but was still unsure to go with S or M. For reference, I am 146#, 5'4". This jacket was not in stock at my local JC shop to try on but a couple of other barn jackets were, however, that effort proved useless, as one barn jacket was huge in a Small while the other sagged in a Medium but was too tight across the shoulders in the smaller size. I ultimately went with a Small in this jacket knowing full well it was a gamble, but Small ended up being the perfect size. It's fitted as it should be, which is slimming but roomy enough for me to still move my arms freely if I'm bent over on my bike. So, if you are between a S and M, but always a M in jackets and coats (I have never taken a S in a jacket or coat), I recommend definitely sizing down to the lower end of the range. I'm not wild about the shiny gold buttons which are actually snaps, so they can't be switched out as I otherwise would have done. But that is a tiny detail in an otherwise quality piece, in which "JC Collection" meets linen in a laminated finish that will last for years and is beautiful. Looking forward to wearing this great jacket.

The special details have elevated this from your basic barn coat. The color, the coating and shine, the lining and collar. Everything is on point and beautifully crafted. Love it, especially on sale!
