Smocked puff-sleeve dress

This is probably my favorite piece that I've purchased recently from J.Crew. I love love it. Even went back and bought the blue plaid version. That said, I had to do something I've done only once in my long history at Jcrew -- I sized up to a large. I'm 129 lbs, 5'5, 36B. Initially ordered the medium bc it's cotton and will shrink. (For reference, I order size 4-6/Small in button up dresses and size up to medium in cotton tshirt dresses.) The Medium chest on this dress was super tight on me even though it's a stretchy smocking. I couldn't imagine it tighter post-dryer. The rest of the dress is billowy to start, so sizing up only really impacted the bodice. It's comfortable now! If you have a larger cup size or don't want crazy tight, size up. But it's worth finding the right size for this dress!

The material is very thin and looks cheap. I am very disappointed and can’t return it.

In love with this dress! It feels both casual and elegant. I’d wear it every day if I could. The fabric is sturdy without being stiff, the puffy sleeves give a romantic feel, and the smocking creates a beautiful silhouette. I also find the neckline very becoming (I worried it might be too wide to cover my bra straps, but that’s not the case). I bought the boots seen on the model to complete the look. In my case, it doesn’t work—the dress grazes the top of the boot, with no peek of skin. I was confused until I realized I am surely at least 7 inches shorter than the model! Otherwise I don’t have any issues with the length—I like it. I am 5’4”, 120 lbs, 34C, with broad shoulders and narrow hips, for reference.

I really love this dress. It's comfortable and true to size. I also purchased the boots in the pic. It is a very modern look. Very happy with this purchase.
