The story of Vans began in 1966 when brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren opened the Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. The shop made and sold shoes directly to its customers, becoming popular with skateboarders who preferred their tough-but-lightweight construction and extra-grip soles.
