I used to love JCrew Shirts. I collected them like baseball cards. Unfortunately, at some point they decided to change their sizing, cuts and fabric. All of which were terrible decisions and have resulted in me now scouring the internet for alternatives, which I have yet to find. I hope someone from the organization reads this before my older JCrew shirts wear out and am I forced to go topless.

It breaks my heart to write this, but J. Crew's secret wash shirts are rapidly declining in quality and fit. I've been buying these shirts since the "slim fit" was first introduced around 2009. They've been a staple in my wardrobe - they always fit very well and required minimal to no ironing. I've probably bought 20-25 secret wash slim fit shirts over the past five years.
Sadly, this year's shirts just don't stack up in terms of quality or fit. They've gotten noticeably bigger and are now just plain baggy on me. They're too long in the body (I'm only 5'9" - but still, Size S should not be cut for someone who is 6'1") and the sleeves have gotten longer and wider as well. They are now only suitable for guys with really bulky or muscular arms. Even worse, the cloth is neither as soft or wrinkle-resistant as was used in past secret wash shirts.
I've purchased several of secret wash shirts in the past couple months, and had to return all but one :(

This style is great and goes with everything. I have bought J.Crew shirts since like 2007 and still have a whole bunch I still wear. This pattern however is my go-to. I have the same shirt from 2 years ago and went to get a new one at the store. The fabric is NOT the same. So much for "Secret Wash" when it is no longer soft and the same wash. The fabric feels cheap and it doesn't feel nice against the skin as it used to. I was speaking to an associate and LUCKILY they were able to find an older fabric one, turns out J.Crew must have changed the fabric this following year or so because the associate gave me the same style, but one had an old black J.Crew tag and the new one has the one like in the picture. Apparently, J.Crew is taking shortcuts with their shirting fabrics or washing time, because it was like that with most of the newer versions (even the employee agreed). So overall, order 2 or 3 of the same shirt and hope 1 of them is from the old inventory.

I have bought 3 of these classic navy and white gingham button down shirts (with 2 in rotation). It's the perfect shirt. the attention to detail of the fit around the armpit and collar is right on. I dress it up with a blazer and and jeans, or Bowreys — or more casual and untucked with a pair of shorts.

I'm 6'2 with 44" chest and a 36" sleeve requirement. This shirt (slim fit-XL) and all the J.Crew shirts I've purchased provide the perfect balance for me of shoulder, chest and sleeve length. The out-of-the-dryer look is great and the quality appears to be fine.
