I really wanted to love this. I've been looking for a dress that hits all the marks this one does - v-neck, bra-friendly, long enough (at 5'7 with a longer torso, I ordered both the regular and the tall - the regular hit just below the kneecaps, but the waist was too high, and the tall hit a couple of inches below the knees with perfect waist placement), silk, lined. The back-drape detail is also really great, as it means that no bra marks show through. The top of the dress and the waist fit well, but it was too tight on the hips, so the dress didn't fall correctly. Unfortunately I am a 16, so I don't have the option to size up - really wish J. Crew went up to an 18 like many of its competitor brands do. If you are between sizes, especially if you size for your hips, I'd go with your larger size.

I purchased this dress in black. I knew immediately when I tried it on that it is a piece I will wear often and will be glad I have in my closet. It is a classic dress with modern tailoring that is appropriate for both work and parties. The dress looks much more expensive than it is. The weight of the silk is light and appropriate for Spring/Summer. The style is slimming. I am 5'9" 155 lbs and the size 10 perfectly. The dress falls mid-knee on me.

I wasn't able to wear this, b/c the size that fits my hips is huge on top and the size that fits my torso is tight on my hips. So if you're a size-bigger-on-the-bottom girl like me, this will be a no go.

Cannot recommend this dress highly enough. It's simple and chic, and the design of the back adds just enough interest without ruining the classic look. I'm 5'9'', and the waist of the tall size 2 hit perfectly (only wish J.Crew would offer tall size 0 in ALL rather than just some items). Please offer more styles at this length (at knee or slightly above)--so elegant!

Pros: very pretty coral color, silk is soft to the touch, quality zipper, true to size
Cons: construction of the lining
Clearly this dress is meant as a airy summer piece. However, when the light-weight silk is backed by a heavier-weight synthetic, breathability is greatly diminished. An even bigger problem is the lining being sewn to the waistline, thus creating an air-pocket that retains body heat.
Wish the lining were done as a separate layer in a lighter material, and that the silk were cut on the bias as a single piece (as opposed to bodice and skirt sewn together). Not only would this make the dress truly airy, it would also alleviate the fit problems mentioned by the reviewers here.
