Purchased the Dark Brown version following a prior purchase of the Tobacco color version....my favorite shoes PERIOD! I wear to the office and they're spot on. Wear these on weekends w/out socks and w/jeans and they're a hit! No BS, these are the best shoes I own - the comfort, classic looks and US craftsmanship are terrific.
Take a leap and spend the twice normal amount, but you'll get 5 times the shoe. Totally wise investment. You can tell the difference, and people who know shoes can too. I have zero negative to say about these shoes except I waited too long to buy.

You buy Aldens for the value. Yes, they're expensive but you'll have them for the rest of your life. They're bulletproof and beautiful.

I've very disappointed with what I received. They look exactly like the cordovan longwing bluchers instead of dark brown calf leather that are described and pictured on the web site.

I ordered these shoes and the ones that arrived look considerably different from the ones pictured. The color of the leather is not as dark, and has a somewhat flat appearance. After looking at this more carefully, the shoes pictured seem to be shell cordovan #8, not dark brown calf leather. The correct shoes were shipped, but the wrong photos seem to be shown on this product entry. I am returning the shoes because I don't like the look of the dark brown calf leather, and don't want to pay extra to exchange them for cordovan.

This type of Alden shoe has always been a grail item for me. I prefer a boxier look to my shoes rather than the ultra streamlined design others favors and the toe box on this shoe is right up my alley. If you order this shoe, I would order whatever size you wear in Alden Indy's if you got some of those. Otherwise, order a full size down from your sneaker size. I contacted the Alden Shop in San Francisco and The Shoe Mart (both Alden experts) and they recommended going down a full size. The shoe fits perfectly. With proper care, I expect to have this shoe for well over a decade.
