This is THE multi purpose dress. I got it last season in the navy and have worn it on so many different occasions. It is made from that light weight JCrew wool that can be worn in Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. I am in between sizes 6/8 and I got the size 6 which is a little tight at the waist…so it may be worth while getting the size up. This is one item that the JCrew description has gotten right, this dress is indeed timeless. I wish it was available in Black and or grey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Becky Beautiful dress, classic, stands out
I bought this dress last season in the bright fuschia colour and adore it. The light pebbled texture of the wool crepe shows off the colour brilliantly and it accesorizes beautifully with a simple skinny belt and/or small stud earrings. I've worn it to work - wear it earned manycompliments - but would not hesitate to wear it on an evening out or an important function. I'm 5'6 and weight roughly 135 pounds with a very athletic build; I bought it in a 4 and it fits perfectly, albeit a tiny bit snug in my shoulders (which are probably larger than most women my size). The bracelet-length sleeves add to its retro femininity. Great fall-winter dress, great purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DCUrbanMom Rather average; disappointing
I really wanted to love this dress but it just wasn't working. I typically wear 0 (or P2) in JCrew but this was too tight around the arm holes with 0 such that I couldn't lift my arms. 2, unfortunately, was too loose around the waist. I wasn't terribly impressed with the material, particularly in the red. Given the short comings, and at the current price point, this is not worth the additional cost of getting it altered. In the red, quite contrary to expectation, the dress looked rather matronly. Unfortunately, will be returning this dress.

Purchased in red. The red is more of a strawberry color rather than the bright, vibrant red seen online. The dress is fully lined and well constructed, and in my opinion, better than recent JCrew quality. The material drapes nicely and looks very high end.
I typically wear a 0 in JCrew dresses, and the 0 fit was perfect without tailoring! The waist and sleeves are very comfortable (contrary to the other reviews). Also, the sleeves end an inch above bracelet length on my 5'3 frame.
I work in a very professional office (suit required daily) and this dress is a gorgeous statement piece for a stylish and slightly conservative office. The only down side is that the loud red color means that I will only be able to wear this dress on a few occasions a year.

I am almost 5'10" (about 143 lbs# and ordered this dress in the regular rather than the tall, as I am high-waisted. While the waist did hit me in the right place, the dress is a little shorter than I would like for the office #about 2 inches above my knee). The hem could be let out, but I will have to check with my tailor to see if she thinks it will leave a crease mark from the original hem. Otherwise, it is a nice dress. Quite conservative looking, though, which you may want to consider if that's not really your style. Also, I agree with other reviewers to size up. I am either a size 6 or 8 in J. Crew dresses, although more frequently a 6. I purchased an 8 in this, and while I may get the waist taken in slightly, I'm glad I got the 8 to fit my lower body and broad shoulders.
