These jeans are a PERFECT fit. If I were to rate them on that criterion alone, I'd give them six stars. So, why only three stars? The quality of the fabric. I've only purchased them in Classic Rinse, as I only like dark jeans. They make my legs blue for at least the first four months and fade (a lot) very quickly. If those were the only problems, I'd not bother to write a review - most dark jeans do that. But EVERY SINGLE pair I've owned (I've now got 4) have worn completely through at the inner thigh/crotch area - within six months. EVERY SINGLE PAIR. I wash them on delicate, in cold water, inside out, and line dry. I keep buying them because of the fit, but it's a lot of money to spend every six months. I've tried buying a larger size thinking maybe they were too tight, but they still wore through. The Matchstick jeans in the same color do not wear out this way at all. It's really unfortunate - I wish they'd make the toothpick Classic Rinse jean in the Matchstick fabric.

I was very upset to see that you have changed the fit of the toothpick jean recently. I have always had a hard time finding jeans so I was thrilled a couple of years ago when I found that the toothpick fit me perfectly. I have owned five pairs of these jeans in different colors but they have always fit me exactly the same. Until now. I ordered this pair and they fit 100% different then my older pairs. The rise is much higher which is extremely uncomfortable and unflattering (total mom jean feel) and the length is not even remotely what I would consider "ankle" length. I am very sad to say that I will not be purchasing my jeans from J.Crew any longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BuzzyTX Great fit, nice fabric
These are surprisingly terrific. I love the color, and the fabric feels like very good quality and even has a hint of stretch. I wanted something with a slim leg that wasn't as snug as a legging-type fit, and these are just the thing. I'm just under 5'4" so I'm having them hemmed, but I can't wait to wear them. I think they'll also look cute cuffed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Joelle DO NOT BUY THESE JEANS
I've been a J.Crew customer for three decades and I will probably continue to be a customer, but I will NEVER buy another pair of jeans from J.Crew. This is the SECOND pair of jeans I have purchased in which the denim simply tore while I was wearing them. They didn't tear on the seams and the jeans weren't too tight (I actually needed to wear a belt to keep them up)-- the quality of the denim is simply lacking. The first time a pair of jeans tore similarly (on the front thigh) I thought that it must be an exception as I have usually found the quality of the other items I have purchased through Crew to be good and sustainable-- I'm still wearing some sweaters from my college days. However, when this pair of jeans tore right below my rear-- while I was at work-- I realized there is a problem with the quality of denim. J.Crew, I expect more from you.

I have been waiting to buy these jeans for months and am so glad that I finally did. I absolutely love them (so much that I even bought a second pair). The length (I'm 5'7") and fit is perfect. They don't stretch as much as some of my other J. Crew jeans, which is great. I definitely recommend buying them!
