Flawless tailoring, high quality fabric with a hint of stretch. The shorter length makes the difference: they look polished and professional when dressed up and super cute and hip when dressed down. As a bonus, the gray version is the same exact color as the gray schoolboy blazer.
For reference, I am 5.5 and 120 pounds. I wear size 0 cafe capris and size 0 number 2 pencil skirts, but the eatons in size 0 were rather tight on me; a size 2 was perfect. (I hope they don't stretch much.) I like them so much I'm on my 3rd pair...

I decided I should buy just one pair, so I got them in red. Wasn't sure how I'd feel about them, but was totally wowed when I slipped them on. The cut is clean, well tailored, and the look is very chic and adaptable. They take you from edgy to office seamlessly.
For shoes, wear them with chunky brogues, gladiator sandals, ankle boots (heeled or flat), or conservative loafers or flats. For tops, a basic cardigan with a clean tank or t-shirt works well for professional situations. When you want to have fun, go for wacky, patterned button-downs (tie it at the waist for a twist), cropped tops and sweaters, and any kind of distressed, punk-flavored, distressed vintage tees and a leather moto jacket.
I think they probably work best on body types that aren't too curvy -- thoe with pear and intense hourglass-shapes in particular should probably steer clear -- since they sit lower on the waist.
About that one pair thing, I loved them so much, I got them in navy, too.

I ordered the size 0 in pinot noir, which is a size up from my usual 00/XXS/24. I am 5'3" and about 100lbs. Though the pinot noir color is beautiful (a nice change from the typical black/grey/navy slacks), these pants look frumpy on my slender frame. They fit well enough through my hips and bottom, but have sort of a drop crotch at the front, and they aren't tapered enough through the ankle to look well tailored. The wool is a little itchy against my legs, but I have sensitive skin. I feel the 00 would fit too snugly against my bottom and hips, but look more polished from the knees down. I will have to get the hem tapered by a tailor and bear with the low crotch. Definitely try these on in person before purchasing on final sale.

These trousers feel and look luxurious. I purchased them in light grey and navy. The fit is slim/tailored. Just enough stretch to make them feel as comfortable as silk pajama pants and a teeny front seam to keep the crease laser sharp. After a month of wearing them to work and with casual wear, I got back online and purchased them in black also.
I was a little apprehensive about trying cropped pants as I am petite (5'4") so I purchased the Regular and not Petite fit and they are come to just above my ankles. They look great with all footwear: ballet flats, sandals and heels. In the fall I am sure they are slim enough in the leg to fit perfectly and easily into knee high boots.
These cropped trousers look great with t-shirts, cashmere sweaters, crisp cotton shirts and jackets. If Audrey Hepburn was alive, she'd be wearing them too.

I own these pants in black, navy and pinot....LOVE them.
They are perfectly tailored for work. The fabric is fantastic ...has a little stretch. I am usually a 6 in JCrew bought these in an 8 and they fit like a glove.
