I was a huge fan of the old matchstick jeans, so am finding it hard to like these. Overall they are fine, but definitely a snugger fit through the hip and thigh than the old matchsticks, yet the waist seems to run bigger. Wishing that J Crew would offer more styles in a thicker, selvedge denim with less stretch. Guys seem to get all the good denim.

I was so looking forward to finally getting a pair of Matchsticks; I did a whole bunch of research for the perfect non-skinny, but still stylish jean with a darker wash. I bought them and wore them regularly (2-4 times a week) for five weeks before I washed them (and only did that because I'd done some gardening in them). When I pulled them out of the machine, I noticed a hole in the crotch about an inch in diameter. And not only was there a hole, but the left knee has completely faded to almost white! I'm still shocked and heartbroken! I've never had this happen to me with any piece from JCrew, let alone any other pair of jeans I've owned-- at least not after only owning them for a month! I loved the style and fit, but I doubt I'll buy these again.

I've owned several pairs of Matchstick jeans over the past 5 years. Over the past 6 months, the style has gotten narrower through the thigh and hip and wider at the waistband, creating a large waist gap. The sizing (or maybe the stretch) has changed as well as I wear old 27s that are looser than newer 29s. My biggest complaint is the quality. My last pair (which are literally going to be my last pair) were worn about 6-12 times before getting a hole on the front under the pocket (where the jeans were severely "wiskering" as well). I can't rationalize the price for so few wears.

I love everything about these jeans except for the waistband. I've noticed that unless the jeans have stretch, the fit is off in the waistband. Literally everything else is perfect but the waist sits off my lower back a good two to three inches! Thankfully I was able to get them altered, but that isn't always available. In the future I will only purchase J.Crew jeans that have stretch in the name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lawyermommy Better than skinny jeans
Matchstick jeans are more figure flattering than skinny jeans. Good for short frames, the straight leg creates a longer line, giving the illusion of height. I am 5'3" and 115lbs and ordered the 25's. I really wish j.crew would make this pair in "short" because I had to have them hemmed.
