I've been buying J Crew cashmere for a few seasons now. in particular have loved the boyfriend styles. I have many colors in the boyfriend v neck style and a few in this crew style that is slightly less boxy and my current favorite.
Sadly this year the quality of the cashmere has clearly changed. It does not have the nap and softness of prior years. The difference is striking. I returned one sweater hoping it was the particular color/lot of fabric but now have a different color and see the same issue. The fabric is more like a very fine merino in look and hand feel vs. the ultra soft downy fabric of prior years.
It's harder to justify paying the full price for the lesser quality, although the colors are still beautiful. So I will recommend the item but with a hope that quality will soon improve.
Please J Crew tell us what happened with your fabric sourcing??

This is the perfect boyfriend sweater. It is a little oversized without being overwhelming. It's an updated and better basic. I was concerned with the sizing (since often times 'boyfriend' items run huge) but I ordered my normal J.Crew size and it's perfect! Most people could probably size down if they wanted to, but you will lose the coveted 'boyfriend' style. Another plus is that the underarms/arms are not too tight- perfect for layering!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Violet Not just an oversized crewneck
Subtle design has been executed in this sweater so it has the voluminous slouchy look but considers a woman's frame, i.e. it isn't bloated, you can see the body. The sleeves are slightly raglan but you don't feel like you are swimming in it. It ironically manages to look sleek. I purchased it in lustrious blue which is J Crew's name for the ever so popular Yves Klein Blue. Typically this royal blue doesn't look good on me but the undertones (another thoughtful design consideration) make it flattering on fair/blondes. The quality of J Crew cashmere has improved. It compares successfully to my high end cashmere. Don't pass this up because it looks so simple. It will make you look great.

I have many J Crew cashmere sweaters bought over a period of 20 years. Over 10 sweatshirts in all colors among other styles. Next to the sweatshirt I love this sweater because of the wonderful colors, I got lilac, and the soft, comfortable but flattering fit. I am very small and ordered the small, it was perfect. In the sweatshirt I always get xs or xxs. so............I wash mine in cold water and have never had a problem with shrinking. Can't imagine cold weather without them although I wear them all year...love the fuchsia with white jeans.

I optimistically ordered two of these, size medium. I'm 5'7" and athletic, and they were utterly enormous & unflattering on me – baggy all over in a decidedly non-chic way. They looked like men's size large. Also, the tawny olive color was lighter than pictured. Rather than a nice deep green it was a strange in-between shade that wasn't flattering at all. Great idea, poor execution.
