Every year I wait to see if they come out with new colors in this skirt. I have it in every color that has been made since I discovered it. It is perfect in every way. It is sleek an structured- it eliminates any bumps or trouble spots you may have. I can sit in it for 12 hours and it barely gets a crease or a wrinkle. You can dress it up for a formal occasion or wear at shirt and casual shoes. It is the perfect flattering length to the center knee. Even though it is a wool, I wear it year round because it isn't thick and bulky-it doesn't have that fuzzy look of most winter wool pieces. I am stoked to finally get a navy!

I prefer fabrics of substantial weight, so I am habitually frustrated with the selection of skirts in stores and online. J. Crew’s No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Wool has been a lifesaver. I love the substantial weight and texture of this skirt. Fully lined and nicely tailored, these are a great value for the money as well. I now have 7 of them. Some colors have run as much as two sizes large, but the Navy and Heather Evergreen that I bought this season (Fall 2014) are running true to the size charts in the hips, though they are at least a size large in the waist. This ample fabric goes great with chunky sweaters or tweed blazers and contrasts smartly with blouses and cashmere. I like the deep colors and neutrals, but one of the nice features of the Double-Serge pencil skirt is that you can get a heavy skirt in bright colors as well. Take note that the Navy is a very dark blue-black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DCUrbanMom Perhaps the perfect wool skirt
Bit embarrassed to say that, with the purchase of this year's chartreuse, I now have 13 of these skirts. The colours are fabulous, and the cut and quality are excellent. I appreciate the attention to detail - the colour of the lining actually matches the colour of the skirt, and is trimmed with ribbon also in the same shade (if not exact colour#. The seaming on my first skirt #whenever JCrew first came out with this style which may be 5-6 years ago# still remains intact. I wear the petite line and these are true to size (glad that JCrew isn't going the unfortunate vanity sizing route like so many other stores). Given all the pretty colours that come, my collection of these skirts may just keep growing.

As an extremely petite person, I don't have the option of trying thing on in store, so I have to order things online just to try them on and then have to go through the hassle of returning them to the store to avoid the return shipping fee.
My waist is 24.5 inches, widest part of the hips/seat is 33.5 inches.
According to the size chart online, I should be in a petite 0 or 2, but I found that the petite 00 fit the best, resting at my natural waist with almost half an inch to spare.
The sizes at J. Crew definitely run large compared to other brands, and aren't even true to their own size charts.
Otherwise, the quality of the material is beautiful, and the style is timeless. I feel for ladies smaller than myself who are sized out of this piece.

Oh J. Crew I feel like you did this just for me <maybe I'm getting too close>. That wildly cool wild flamingo color in this perfect skirt.....I'm gonna be humming a snappy tune all day!
This skirt is simply a staple in any gals closet. Get the basics.....a black & a camel....then patiently wait every fall for the smell of those new pencils and to see what crazy cool color in the #2 you can collect each yr. Like new pencils in first grade, it's a rite of passage.
