I was so excited to order a few new colors of the No. 2 pencil skirt for my spring/summer wardrobe, and to my dismay when I went to try them on in-store, I found that my favorite skirt had been altered (and, therefore, should have a different name, it seems to me). The new waist band is thinner and looks more flimsy/less sophisticated than the thicker band of the original skirt. The fabric, which was so luxurious, thick, expensive-looking and body-flattering (it gave the appearance of a perfect silhouette, and I always felt fabulous wearing it), is now a thinner, more wrinkle-prone, less flattering, less structured, lesser quality version of the original. The seams complicate what was a simplistic and elegant look. The result is that this skirt looks frumpier and less high-end than it used to...and makes me look frumpier, too! Please consider bringing back the original design!

J Crew cotton (summer, spring) and wool (fall, winter) pencil skirts are the core of my wardrobe, and I buy several each year. This year, I purchased six of the cotton twill skirts: soft guava, bright jade, vivid aqua from the first round released early in the spring, and then iced orchid, dusty pomegranate, and seashore from the second updated release in late spring. The design of the 2014 skirts is a little more body-con than previous years, and the material is slightly thinner and softer than the 2013 and 2012 skirts. In my experience there was some inconsistency in the cuts between the first and second releases this year, and the second set of colors released had a more narrow fit. I am 5'8" and 130 lbs. The first set of three colors fit me best in size 4, and the second set was better in a size 6. As mentioned in other reviews, I wash mine either by hand or on the delicate cycle in the washing machine. I love the skirts, and the colors are beautiful.

I get a few new skirts from J.Crew every season. The fit has always been "just ok" on my body type. For reference, I am petite and curvy, 125 lbs 5'4". I typically am a size 4 but from J.Crew, I get a size 2 skirt; sometimes in petite, sometimes not. This particular skirt I liked the regular length which hit me right at the knee. I gave this skirt 3 stars for style (and 4 stars for overall) because although the 2 fits it's not has cinched at the waist as I would like and sizing down is not an option either. Still, it's a great work wardrobe staple and the colors are always phenomenal.

I love everything about this skirt and I have it in 5 colors, all purchased in the last 4 months. However, I found that green, navy, and black were the same size. However the Dusty Pomegranate ran a whole size smaller and the Thunder Gray was about a half size.

I love the fit, love the color.
I have the same skirt in other colors.
I washed it by hand even if it is dry clean only it came out perfect.
