This skirt is a great option for those of us who are pear shapes and for whom the straight pencil skirt doesn't work. It is looser than a No. 2 pencil but is not a drastic A-line, so it will probably work for many figure types. The slight stretch allows it to relax a bit during the day, which was comfortable and not sloppy looking. The length hits right at the top of my knee (5'10"), and the waist sits at my natural waist, which can be accented with a skinny belt in the loops. Thought I wouldn't like the pockets being on the outside and the bottom seam drawing attention to the hip area, but I actually found myself using them a lot during the day. There is some gaping when you sit, but it's not too bad. The skirt's lining prevented the skirt-ride-up that often happens, and the middle pleat allows for ease of movement. Great job on a versatile piece that will be used for work or casual outings!

1. Fits perfectly! I ordered my No 2 pencil skirt size and it was the perfect fit.
2. Great length! Hits right at the top of my knee....perfect!
3. I won't really call it a full A-line. Nice slim silhouette but more wearable than a
4. Comfortable but sturdy fabric with a bit of stretch. Love. Very nice quality and love the patch pocket.
5. I loved it so much I bought it in white, french blue and navy! It's a workhorse skirt in my closet.
6. If this skirt style would have been incorporated into a shirt DRESS style I would have bought that too!

I have several other J.Crew items in the stretch cotton fabric, and wanted to add this style to my wardrobe. The skirt is great quality with a full lining, and the Navy, Dusty Dune, and Vanilla White can be worn with the Thompson Blazers in those colors for a suiting option. I recommend sizing up if you are between sizes. I go between a 4 and a 6, with 6's having a little extra room in the waist for me. I found the 6 to have no extra room. I'm 5'7" and the skirt hit right above the knee. It's a great A-line option, and other reviewers definitely appreciate J.Crew putting out this item, but I found I prefer the pencil skirt style for my figure.

I just got this skirt in navy and I am very pleased. I am 5ft9,5 and the lenght of this skirt in regular size is perfect for work.
The front pleating adds a nice kick to this skirt and keeps it from looking matronly. I love the cut as it balances out my proportions (I am pear shaped and almost anything pencil shape will make my butt look enormous) but doesn't swamp me. It is not a full circle-style skirt so you will be showing a bit of that bum of yours (it fits well on the back, in other words# but at the same time it will fade out those lumps on your upper thighs.
The fabric is sturdy and will probably crease a bit in use but it also irons out really well #no pulling like with lighter stretch fabrics).

I'd advise against buying this. I love a good a-line skirt but this one hangs strangely. The pockets are an issue.. I am not sure if it's because the fabric is too stretchy or what.... I want to keep the skirt so I am going to sew the pockets closed....
