I bought the MacAlister wedge boot in black about 3 years ago. That is a fabulous boot -- it is extremely comfortable, the suede has remained in good condition, and it gets worn almost daily in the Fall and early Spring.
Last year I purchased it in a lighter beige colour and I am incredibly disappointed with the quality of the new design. The wedge is very thin, making it extremely wobbly (I have fallen on the side of my ankle numerous times). The suede is of a poorer quality. Additionally, the tongues of the boot slide down with wear so that you have to unlace the boots, place the tongue back again, and re-lace them again.
Very disappointing considering how wonderful these boots used to be.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JKML Disappointed In Redesigned Macalister Wedge Boot
I owned a pair of J. Crew's original release of the Macalister Wedge Boot about 3 years ago. It was more stylish with more detailing, especially in the wedge. It used to be a super soft suede that fit to your foot with extreme comfort and the wedge absorbed weight and friction really well. This year's model feels much tighter, it runs unusually narrow, even though it is a regular size. The wedge is a cheap knockoff, with less detailing, and made of a harder rubber that doesn't absorb the impact of walking. I miss my old Macalister Boots. I will definately return this and would never recommend them to anyone. J Crew's quality has gone down in my opinion. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by daestarr Comfortable and gorgeous
I bought these in olive in early spring 2014 and fell in live as soon as I took them out of the box. They are very comfortable despite the height. The narrow part of the wedge can be a little tricky though because they are a little too narrow, but I haven't had any trouble walking in them (I don't wear heels often and the first time I wore them out it was snowing). Have gotten many compliments on these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Shirley Beautiful wedge bootie, horrible quality
I bought these wedges in December 2011. I was attracted to them because of their comfortable fit. After a few months the corded welt that is holding the crepe sole started falling apart. After a while the whole thing just came off (sole still intact). Also the sole heel wears pretty quickly. I'm not a heavy person and I don't think the corded welt should have fallen apart like that. I'm writing this review almost 3 yrs after purchase but basically I've worn the shoes less than a year (shortly after the welt started falling off I stopped wearing, and just recently started wearing a month ago). When I called cs, it was suggested that I buy another pair of boots - WHAT???? I don't think boots that cost this much should last less than a year. They are beautiful, but disposable quality and too expensive to have to replace after essentially less than a year of use. I wish I could attach a picture of the shoes as I don't believe this is normal.

Effortless style! Great fit. Good heel height. The shade of grey is perfect.
