I agree with reviewer that said the waist is too high on the tall. This is a problem I've had with other J Crew pieces like the Sara dress (94433).
It's true that tall women also have tall torsos. J Crew should study up on where the waist falls on a tall woman. The reason this coat is so beloved and works so well is that it gives a woman a waist. If it doesn't do that one job (you had one job!), the empire waist type effect makes you look fat.
Other concern: a woman with a waist will probably also have hips, and the hips pull at the pockets, actually opening them a little, making slits and exposing the shiny satin within. (I noticed this after one night when I put my phone and wallet into the pockets, which seemed to have enlarged them?). I'm a 4 on top and a 6 on the bottom.
Other than these two issues, the coat is impressive and attention-getting. We tall women really do depend on J Crew for elegant, flattering clothing because J Crew does the trim, clean, tailored look so well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by TallnBlonde So this is a "tall?"
I fell in love with this jacket the minute I saw it. The color (wet cobblestone) is amazing. So I ordered it, even though it was on backorder. I was so happy when it arrived much earlier than expected! The fabric is nice. It's more grey in person than online. The texture is harder and smoother than your typical wool coat. The lining is clearly high-quality as well.
So why two stars? Because I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how this jacket is considered a "tall." The sleeves were much too short for a tall, and the waist was in completely the wrong place (read: 3 inches above my natural line.) This made me look boxy. Basically, there's no definition. I'm 5'9 and typically wear a 2 so it's not like I'm boxy to begin with. Just making the arms "longer" does not constitute a tall, J. Crew! Also, the pockets are in the worst place - right in front next to the buttons so you look like you're covering up *something* instead of just keeping your hands warm.

I absolutely love this coat. The color was a little more blue than I was expecting, but it really works. I'm 5'10", 145 lbs and Size 8 Tall fit perfectly, leaving a little room for winter clothing. The sleeves were just the right length as was the hem. Usually my coats hit a little short for knee-length dresses, but this is perfect just above the knee. Everyone that saw me in this coat has just gone crazy over both the unique color and beautiful fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lotty Great Warm Coat for Tall Ladies
I am quite tall (6'1) and finding a winter coat with long enough sleeves has always been a struggle. This coat not only has a great fit for tall ladies but it is also very warm with the Thinsulate, making it a double score in my book. I purchased the same coat 2 yrs ago, the quality has been very good and the style is so classic I decided to get it again in a new color this year. The coat does run a tad large (I went down a size from my usual) but if you want space for thick sweaters true size may work.

I have never reviewed anything before, but I want everyone to know how great this piece is! I am 5'11" with very long arms, and this coat fits like a dream. I cannot go anywhere without receiving compliments on it. The thinsulate lining makes it nice and toasty without adding bulk. It's worth every penny!
