I had this coat for 2 winters I had to dispose of it because it got degraded beyond belief. First the buttons popped off on a regular basis. Second, the lining ripped in places I didn't was even possible - sleeves, shoulders, back, seat area. And it wasn't as though I was wearing razor blades underneath or anything. It was so bad that I had to rip out a large section from one of the sleeves because my arm would always get caught in the partially torn lining every time I try to put on the coat. Everyone knows replacing a coat lining can be near impossible - an honest tailor would tell you to just get a new coat. I really want to like this coat (I liked it a lot before it began to fall apart) but I can't wrap my head around buying a "disposable" winter coat knowing I'll have to throw it out in 2 years. The coat looks beautiful and the buttons are charming but unless jcrew has addressed this lining and button issue I wouldn't recommend this coat, unless you get it for next to nothing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by mediavisionds Buttons Fell Off Repeatedly, 3X to Tailor, Useless
I read Sarah from Ann Arbor, MI, USA and Tall Girl from MA comments amongst many and do not feel satisfied that J Crew doesn't do something to satisfy the historical customer who purchased this coat before they made changes this Fall. I paid the full price for this coat for my daughter in college and she has brought it home 3 times already for multiple buttons falling off. Each time I brought it to the tailors and requested extra strong stitching to reattach the buttons to no avail. The coat has become useless as there is no way to keep the buttons attached and the tailor has told me to give up and purchase another coat, especially now that buttons have gone lost and impossible to match/replace. Very disappointed...otherwise the style and quality of the fabric is good. Would like to see J Crew do something so my daughter (who is a dedicated J Crew customer) can wear the peacoat she loved.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JenR Great style, poor quality
This coat is beautiful (especially when buttoned up, but also when left open) and warm. I've worn this coat buttoned up about 12 times this fall/winter season and the buttons have already fallen off repeatedly. I've been careful to wear only light layers underneath to keep it from being too tight and pulling on the buttons, but that hasn't worked. When I took the coat to a professional tailor for button repair, he advised me to allow him to reinforce all of the buttons. He also advised me to be mindful of the lining; he said it isn't sewn in very snugly and will be easily torn and very expensive to replace/repair (read: not worth it).
If you live in a climate where you can wear this coat unbuttoned or only button occasionally, it's worth the buy because it is pretty and warm. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fuelchic Beautiful Tailored Fit
I ordered this coat because I love the look AND because it came in a tall size. It fits beautifully! If you have long arms like me you will love this coat. I ordered the size 4/tall and it fits just right, no bagging, not too big in the waste. I'm 5'10" and it hits just below the backside. The quality is top notch. Very nice tailored look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Transitioner Super stylish peacoat
I am 5'9" , 145 pounds and bought this in a 10 tall. It is a slim fit and a heavy sweater under it would be too much. The bone color is very versatile and I didn't need another dark colored coat. I am very pleased with the look and the quality of this jacket.
