collection of bold printed styles. Cofounded by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, Studio 189 works with African artisans to craft pieces using traditional textile techniques. The fabric is thoughtfully produced in Ghana with locally sourced hand-printed cotton, then carefully hand sewn in Brooklyn, NY. Batik printing is a time-intensive, centuries-old textile art form where artisans carefully handcarve motifs into stamps, which are then dipped in wax and pressed into the cloth. After the cloth has been dyed and washed, the patterns have slight variations that are unique to each shirt, so no two are exactly alike.
