7" stretch tailored chino short with back elastic waist

I actually laughed when I opened package. Ordered both colors for my 19 yr old college son. Big elastic waist..similar to a toddler’s big boy pull up pants for preschool or my 87 yr old dad’s eleastic waist chinos. No need to unbutton getting on and off..just slip right down/up. Good choice as fat pants (shorts) after over eating at your summer BBQ’s. Wish I could send back but purchased final sale. Who else is longing for the good old days of JCrew? Me me me

These are my new favorite shorts. Elastic waistbands are for the thick guys like myself. The front looks nice while the back expands for a comfy fit. No offence to the guys who wrote other reviews, but you most likely don't have the backside to need an expandable waistband. The shorts fit really well. They are a shorter length than most would be used to but its good for showing off a nice set of legs.

Trim fit is perfect. Elastic in back waist keeps them in place without a belt and makes these the most comfortable, well tailored shorts I’ve ever worn. Length is perfect, especially if you’re not skipping leg day. My bf says these are the sexiest shorts I own. J Crew: More color ways, please. I’ll buy ‘em all.

The pictures of these shorts, on the model, are very very deceiving. I dislike the elastic band. The shorts would fit far better, WITHOUT the elastic band. Perhaps I am not speaking for everybody, and I understand that, but why overcomplicate the short with an elastic band. I will say from the front; the shorts look great and well-fitted. However, because of the elastic band, the back looks all saggy with excess fabric. It truly does look like a diaper. My only advice to Jcrew is to make classic fitting clothing items of good quality. Know where to draw the line when it comes to advanced clothing styles.

I don’t understand the back elastic at all. It doesn’t look like the picture at all in the back. I ordered my usual size (which fits fine for every other style pant/shorts) but this just bunches in the back loosely. It looks like I have a diaper on. Returned!

Pros: Elastane at the back helps keep the shorts up without sagging and giving 'diaper butt.' Trim fit is spot on, as it isn't so wide--without that flair that most shorts often give. Very comfortable; moves and breathes. What's more, it is true to size; none of that vanity sizing. Washes very well, too with almost no shrinkage. Cons: Thin material (I wouldn't recommend using a wide belt, as it will pull and stretch the belt loops to the point of ripping from the seams). Has a clasp instead of a button. Personal note: Consider washing and drying these without fabric softner, but with dryer balls. Reason being, it'll maintain the elasticity of the fabric, which will last much longer, retaining its shape.
