Wallace & Barnes zip-front twill shirt-jacket in camo

Great fabric cut right for a light weight jacket. Full length zipper with chest and hand pockets make it perfectly functional. But an overly bold camouflage pattern meant it had to bottom out at final sale prices before I would chance buying it in order to wash it a few times with bleach to see if it could be successfully toned down.

I own a lot of Wallace and Barnes - in fact, it's basically all I buy at J. Crew anymore since they started the whole J. Crew Jeans thing - but this jacket has a wonderfully slubby, medium weight fabric and easy to approach shirt/jacket design. I also like the sturdy buttons and the Talon zipper, which are nice details. Very easy to combo with other WB items, or any number of vintage/heritage/military anchored casual looks without looking costumey.

I actually didn't have any camo pieces in my wardrobe before this one, but I can certainly say this wasn't a bad place to start. It is very similar in design to a trucker jacket. In addition to two chest pockets, there are welt pockets at side seams, and two interior waist pockets as well (which aren't listed in the description). The body has a little more of a boxy than tailored fit as described, which I guess is more of an authentic military look. The zipper is a little small and thin, but it still works fine. Some of the threads for the stitching do look slightly frayed/fuzzy, but not really a deal-breaker. Overall, it's a nicely understated piece of camo. Durable fabric with solid construction always makes a decent garment for me. I would recommend picking this one up.
