What customers are saying:
A number of customers suggested a clearer product description so buyers know they’re getting a clip-on instead of a traditional self-tie bow tie. Several customers also recommended improvements in durability, noting that parts of the tie sometimes came apart, frayed, or showed signs of wear right out of the package. Despite these comments, some customers appreciated the overall design and found the clip-on style worked well for formal events. One customer even mentioned that in-store sizing was a quick and convenient option, adding to a generally positive overall experience with the look of the tie.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for a clip on bow tie
March 1, 2024Unlike the other reviews I thought the tie was great even though it was a clip on. I usually wear another color bow tie to black tie events to match my wife’s dress but the last gala we went to she was decided to wear a black dress so I also went with a traditional bow tie in black. This worked out perfect for the occasion.

poorly made
June 5, 2019I ordered 2 for our daughters wedding. My husbands was fine but my son's was frayed along the band and he had to sew the loop on the tie before he was able to wear it to the wedding. And that was the condition of the tie when he opened the package.

Ripped on first use
January 9, 2019I purchased this in New York hours before a black tie event. They sized it for me in the store - all I had to do was put it on and walk out the door. As soon as I went to put it on, the center piece that connects the tie to the wrap-around portion tore 95% of the way through. I scrambled and got a different tie. Very disappointed in the quality J Crew. Haven't even returned it, though I should.

One more clip-on disappointment
January 2, 2019One more person who didn't realize this was basically a clip on. If that's what you want, great, but I was looking for a self-tie bowtie, so I'll be returning this. I wish the description on here, or the pictures, had given a more accurate impression of the product.

Clip-On Alert
December 30, 2018Like the previous reviewer, I too ordered this being unaware that it’s a clip-on. It’s utterly disappointing to have purchased the J Crew tuxedo and to find that the only matching tie for it is a clip-on. It doesn’t make sense; I would think that the gentleman who wears a clip-on bow tie is the gentleman who RENTS a tuxedo. The tie also nearly came apart in my hands as I poked at it incredulously, thinking that perhaps it was shipped tied, for display, and that I’d simply unknot it. But having said all that, if you’re seeking a clip-on tie to coordinate with your J Crew tux, this is surely the nicest one I’ve ever seen. The fabric is nice, and the construction could legitimately pass as a tie you knotted yourself. And given that a bow tie isn’t really subject to wear and tear, I think it’s sturdy enough to do the job. Just not for me.

Misleading description and poorly-made product
December 21, 20181) I went to the JCrew Store in Glen Mills, PA to buy a real bow tie (not a clip-on). They not only had zero bow ties in store, they had no ties at all...very confusing for a men's store. 2) The very helpful employee helped me order it online. I asked if it was real or not and he said "you know what, the picture makes it look like a clip on, but the description says 'Our ties are handmade in Long Island City, New York, by Mane... which means they're more flexible and easier to tie than machine-made ties.' which sounds like its a real tie." That's exactly what I confused about. It arrived today, and it was in fact a clip on and the middle "bow" piece was already falling off. I wasn't even able to try it on for fear that it would completely break. I have never been so disappointed in a JCrew product. I usually try to only purchase Sweatshop-free products and this tie was made in the USA...bummer.
