484 Slim-fit jean in light-wash Japanese denim

I’m 5’11 slim build. A true 33/32. These run large and long. I purchase a 32/30. Didn’t want a rolled up cuff. PERFECT FIT! Took advantage of the huge discount and finally have the Japanese denim jeans I always wanted.

Background: I'm still wearing a pair of Canadian-made selvedge J.Crew 'vintage slim' jeans from 2007. They're virtually indestructible look better with each passing year. Since 2010 I've also been wearing various Chinese-made 484s -- especially the Japanese selvedge model (now discontinued) which were decent if a far cry from both the Canadian denim of yore and Wallace and Barnes Cone stuff. Last few years J.Crew started adding synthetic fibers that wrecks the durability and feel of the fabric. Now FINALLY I saw these 'rigid' (meaning normal denim) jeans. Verdict? Crisp fabric. Really nice light wash - clean light blue. Good fit through body (similar if not better than prior 484s which were always a little too low in the rise). Other reviews are right about leg openings being a tad wider than standard 484s. Main gripe is that the distressing is too aggressive on the pockets, fly, and leg openings. These things are going to start falling apart at those points earlier than they should.

Been wearing 32x34 484 jeans for years...bought 2 pair of these last week and the sizing any styling is very loose...not even close to what the 484 cut has traditionally been. I’m returning 1 pair...unfortunately I washed the other thinking they needed to shrink...no such luck. Avoid these if you’re looking for the slim low rise 484 cut...not even close! The Japanese denim is a great fabric though...

I haven't bought a pair of pants from J Crew in a while, and what a disaster. I am size 28 in denim everywhere else (according to the guidelines I can't say where lmao, that's hilarious), and that same waist was in fact the right option to go with here. That was where the positive results stopped. I knew I would need either a 28/30 or a 28/32, but in the end it didn't matter. The legs are massive and have no taper whatsoever. They are not slim. They looked somewhere between boot cut and bell-bottom. If you're going to pay this much for a pair of pants just cough up a little bit more and go to the department store in the same mall as the J Crew you'll have to return these to.

I have a few pairs of 484 fit jeans. These mostly fit like my other 484s, but the leg openings are more like a straight fit. Seems like poor quality control. Disappointed.

The denim is a nice and fairly weighty kind but the sizing is weird. The waist on my size 32's measure to 17 inches across and the thigh is at more than 12 inches, so they are roomier than most 33 waisted 770's. Seems like a manufacturing error.
