Brushed twill shirt in plaid

I recently purchased two of these shirts in classic medium. In the past, I've preferred the slim because I like my shirts to have a tailored fit, but recently I've noticed that the slim medium fit has been a little too small on me (I'm 5'10" 190 lbs., athletic build). I found that buying the classic fit in the same size works well for me and I no longer have to worry about the shoulders tearing or chest buttons popping off. When I got these shirts, they were almost perfect. The material felt great, fit well everywhere, but they were slightly longer in the arms and length of the shirt. After washing them the first time (cold wash and tumble low), they shrunk an unbelievable amount. It's unreal. The shirts are extremely tight in the shoulders and chest, and even the arms no longer reach just below my wrist. My recommendation is that, if J.Crew shirts are usually on the tighter side for you, buy a size up in a classic fit or hang dry the shirts.
