Mathilde dress in luster canvas

I needed a couple of dresses for upcoming evening business events. My typical go-to stores (except this one) have yielded to the "fast fashion" trend, of poor quality fabrics to boost their bottom line. I had almost given up hope when I arranged a 1 -1/2 hour trip to my closest J. Crew store. This was one of the dresses I purchased. It is classic, polished, and flattering for any figure. The fabric is a substantial linen blend with a high quality full lining, and provides a weighty, elegant drape. As a seamstress, I notice quality details and touches. J. Crew did not disappoint with this one! My only criticism is that the company's sizing system has become unpredictable, which makes ordering online nearly impossible. Almost every J. Crew item in my closet that fits, is either a size 6 or 8. This time I had to buy 12's I both dresses. However a 12 in a 3rd dress I tried gapped under the arms. Consequently, the 4 rating seems accurate.

I bought this dress in the dark color to wear for memorial services and Lent. The dress style is classic and very flattering to my large body.

The dress fits well, though it's very long. Too long. For reference, I'm 5'6" and this dress cuts right above my ankles, making it come off way more conservative than I would've intended. I do like that it's lined and tailored well. I will need to have it hemmed however.

Beautiful dress! I'm 5'3" and usually order regular sizing as opposed to pettites I find too short on me. This dresa runs really long, but fortunately i had it tailored through jcrew. It's a nice weight fabric and I absolutely love the little belt! Would recommend petite if 5'3" or shorter ease make more colors!

Beautiful dress and perfect for spring in the lavender. The dress is a bit heavy when you wear it but I didn't mind that. I am 5'3 and 130lbs I ordered the size 6 and fits perfect. I had to shorten the dress quit a bit so I would suggest ordering it in a petite size if you are under 5"4 and going up one size. My only issue was the price. I ordered it from Canada and paid $375 to get it here but my sister-in-law who lives in New York ordered the same dress for less than half of the cost in the US. There are more sales in the US than in Canada. The four stars is based on the price point.

Nice dress. Good quality. Great little belt, but the dress is very long. I’m average height and need to get it hemmed.
