Collection side-cutout midi dress in striped taffeta

Despite questionable reviews I chances this dress on final sale and I love it. I’m 125 lb, 36 C bust and the 6 fits great. The dress is a thin taffeta-like fabric, the top is completely adjustable. Length wise- true midi on my 5’5” frame. The skirt is full but not poofy, it’s not pleated so it stands like you would expect the fabric to. Such a stunning summer dress.

I was very excited to purchase this. Loved the color and style. I don’t think J Crew has a plus size fit model. This dress just looks like they took the proportions of a straight model and made it larger which equals disaster IMHO. Fabric ok. Returned.

I read the reviews before ordering and was a little discouraged but I decided to order anyway and I'm glad I did. The material is Taffeta so it's not supposed to be heavy and thick. It feels how taffeta feels. This dress is adorable. It runs true to size. I'm 150 lbs smaller on the top and curvy on the bottom. I got an 8. I could have gone up to a 10 for more room in the waist but its not uncomfortable. I am 5'3 so its a little longer on me but still really pretty!

**The good: The color, stripes, full skirt, pockets, adjustable back - gorgeous **The bad: The construction of where the asymmetrical top meets the seam of the skirt is wonky at best. It looks like it doesn't line up in a sewing sense, not in a design sense. **The neutral: Sizing-wise, if you alternate between two sizes in J.Crew dresses, choose your smaller size since both the back tie and the elastic waistband offer flexibility The verdict: If you can get this on strong sale, still do so. But it's not going to be a showstopper (unless I just got a version where the diagonal striping pattern on the top part happened to be the worst spacing possible). I might add a thick white belt to cover up weird bunching or just roll with it. The overall style aesthetic and comfort is great. Like the skirt fullness as well.

If you’re looking for a beautiful blue dress for summer, this is the one! It fits just as it looks above. The skirt is full and lined. the straps can be adjusted to fit the top as needed. A great addition for warm weather and the party where I’m going to wear it.

I was so excited by the concept of this piece for a wedding guest dress. Others have noted that there is a lot of fabric which, whilst true, didn’t bother me- I’m 5’10/size 4 so could carry this amount of fabric. However this would definitely swamp petite bodies off the bat. My big stickler was quite how badly fitting the top was. I know it’s meant to be asymmetric, but the fit was just totally bizarre from cheap construction. It gaped where it shouldn’t (EG at the armpits and around the waist cutout), the stripes in the fabric didn’t line up, it just looked dreadful. This should be a super chic dress, but (especially for the more premium price point) more care needs to go into the garment construction. Major flop.
