Sheath dress in colorblock in stretch matelasse

I love this dress especially the color block however, it's a bit too short, it's well above my knees and at my age, I'd rather not wear it this short.

I bought this dress and another orange Matelassé dress with piping, both in my usual size 2. The other one fits perfectly while this one is at least 1 size too big. I LOVE the color combination and the style enough that I want to try a smaller size, possibly with my seamstress’ addition help. The shoulder straps are too long and narrow, and the neckline so low cut that it even exposed part of the bra I was wearing that day. I’m not sure if smaller size would take care of this problem. Also, I hate the darting. I get it that it’s the vintage look, but it makes your breasts look too sharp and pointy and unnatural for my taste. For reference I measure 33(b/c cup), 26, 36, and I’m swimming in size 2, especially the top and waist area. The fabric has no stretch at all with that poly liner. The back is scooped cut, which I love. Lengthwise it’s perfectly above the knee (5’5”), neither matronly nor daring.

First (good!) things first: the colors are beautiful and even more vibrant in person, and the material is very comfortable and lightweight. However, the quality of this dress was so poor. The darts in the chest area made it look like I wasn't wearing a bra (if you know what I mean). There was a lot of excess fabric that pooled above the rear area, yet the fabric strained in the front thigh area. I'm in between sizes 4/6, 5'6" with an hour glass figure (I ordered a 4), and it just didn't look right on me. It appeared poorly designed with low quality sizing and proportions.

Love this dress. I got it for my birthday coming up and I can't wait to wear it out! I'm a bit wider on the bottom- it fits perfectly around the hips on me but a bit large up top. It has much more of a shift shape than A line as the photo may suggest

I saw this dress and LOVED the color combination and the textured fabric. I also love the sort of mod 60s look and style. I normally wear a size 6 in J Crew dresses but something told me it looked a little narrow through the hips so I ordered a size 8 regular. I am 5'3" so it was a little longer on me than likely most, My suspicion was correct that it was a bit more narrow in the hips, I am more curvy on bottom, so the 8 actually was great on my lower half (I didn't want it to be skin tight or riding up). Material was really nice in my opinion, I loved the texture and the colors were gorgeous. It was fully lined and I loved even the cute knot detail on the J Crew tag on the inside. However, the top was too big. Shoulder straps were too long so it didn't hit me right and I probably needed a size 6 on top as well as taking in the straps. Sadly I returned it, but I thought it was gorgeous. I would recommend it if you have maybe slimmer hip area and can get away with the longer straps.

I waited forever to buy this dress because no reviews and no photo on a model. Seriously J Crew, enough already with flat one side photos that give no clue how something fits! Anyway, I love the pink red color combo so finally acquired it. It is really cute. Fabric as described and expected. I am between a 2 and 4, ordered 4 to be on the safe side. It is is big on top, and I should have gotten the size 2. Exchange is such a hassle, I will just make it work with a padded bra. Unlike the other reviewer, this came to just at my knee but I am 5'3.
