Cotton voile tiered maxi dress in fairy floral

I found this dress to be perfect-a beautiful print, flowy, and well made (it has french seams!). I wore it out several times on our trip to Florida, for dinner and walking along the beach. What I loved is that I got the dress wet at the bottom and it dried up before we got back to our car. You can wear it with a belt for a more cinched in look or flowy for a more casual look. For reference, I am 5'1" and 112 lbs. and took my usual XS. If they had this in different colors I would definitely buy again!

I absolutely love this dress and can’t understand the low ratings. The print is beautiful and colorful. The fabric is light and airy. I’ve worn this out to brunch and shopping - received numerous compliments each time. After reading the reviews, I did size down. Still a little loose, but the belt helps cinch in the waist. I didn’t find it to be sheer, so no need for a slip. At 5’, I was worried that it might be too long, but it’s a perfect maxi length for me, even with flats on. I didn’t like the sleeves pulled down towards the elbow, like how the model wears it, so I pulled them up a little and they hang over for cute little balloon sleeves (did not look too puffy). This dress flows so beautifully while walking…I unbuttoned it upwards, like in the first photo, to show off a little leg. I found this on sale with an extra 50 percent off promo…what a steal! I couldn’t be more happy with this purchase! I just ordered the matching headband too.

J Crew has this listed as a “dress” but when I received it and tried it on I found it to be more of a cover up. It is an EXTREMELY thin material. COMPLETELY see-through. I took the cotton slip out of another dress I got at the same time and tried that, but it didn’t work. Yes, this is very pretty but...c’mon j crew! This is a beach cover up. Even the label states it’s from the beach collection. So disappointed! It’s also very big. I’ve gained quite a lot in the last several months and the medium was really large on me. Additionally, the short sleeves have elastic in them. They ride up on the arm. This is not particularly flattering if you have more muscular arms, or larger arms.

The fabric on this is superb, lovely colors and a vintage look. The description did NOT say that it is a beach coverup dress, which the label clearly says. :( It's thin, but not see through. So...I am going to cut off the balloon sleeve part and make it a cap sleeve. Then pull out the functionless neck tie and remove the belt. If I take in the waist area to be more fitted, the drop waist will fall flatteringly. If you can sew, these are easy alterations because there is no lining!

The material is GORGEOUSSSSS, and it feels solid but has a delightful flowiness to it that is beautiful. It's HUGE, and I think you have to be really skinny for this dress to be flattering. I'm 32-28-32 and 5'2". The sleeves puff out a little more than the photo, and I actually think it looks a lot better folding the sleeve up into itself to create a sort of bell-shaped sleeve. On me, the tiered bottom hangs just right but it definitely hits at the thighs. I'm usually a size 0 or XS in J.Crew. The reviews correctly stated that this is like a bag, complete with an inexplicable drawstring collar (??!??!).

I got my usual size small; I’m typically a 6, and about 5’9. It’s not clear from the listing that this is intended as a beach cover up, but the label inside says something about beachwear and I guess that explains why it’s unlined even though it’s not thick enough to be opaque in the light. It’s very comfortable, light, and airy, and unlike others I found the cut flattering on me, but ultimately it’s too expensive to be worried about exposure and wearing a slip would defeat the airy comfort. For me, even on saw I can’t justify the price without a lining because I would never wear something like this to the beach, I wanted to use it as a relatively dressy dress! I’m hoping something else that suits my lifestyle will come along in this print because I do love it.
