Washable merino wool turtleneck sweater

I'm a longtime J. Crew customer but I normally shop their Women's line, and this is my first time ordering an item from their Men's line for myself. It fits nicely and true to size according to the men's size chart. I'm very pleased with it apart from the fact that it's obviously a return because it smells strongly of men's cologne. (The cologne actually smells really nice so I'm not too bothered!) Other than that the sweater is great - I love the new merino wool sweaters they've been rolling out. They're classic, comfortable, and versatile, and serve as easy layering pieces that you can dress up or down. I hope J. Crew will continue to make them in a range of colours!

These merino wool turtlenecks are soft and warm...good quality too because they do not itch, they wash easily, and stay looking nice after washing. I wear a jc tee underneath the sweater and pair it up with jeans, cords, or jc plaid camp pants. This sweater is so right it’s a staple of my Covid loungewear. The fit is excellent, not too skinny not too flabby. Sleeve length and body length perfect. I’m 6ft and fit and symmetrically built and wear a medium. I own three of these, all bought on sale. Can’t beat it for quality and price.

Sweater was not cheap and the fabric pilled up after the first time wearing it definitely not worth the money!

I ordered a Large, which is what I usually take in J Crew V necks and crew style. But although this turtleneck is a Large, it is much bigger than expected. My problem is that I suspect the Medium will be tighter than I can use. Can you advise? If it were in the store it wd be easy to just go in and try on a Medium, but I'll have to order it and wait and then return one of them. Can you just send a Medium to the store?

WASHINGTON DC weather doesn’t get cold enough to wear a cashmere sweater frequently unless it’s a thin cashmere. I own several J Crew thin cashmere sweaters but needed a new turtleneck so I tried this one. It is very comfortable and stays in shape all day plus it fits under a suit jacket. I actually fell asleep in it when I got home that night. I didn’t remember that it’s washable so I’ll try that now. If J Crew added a touch of cashmere I guess it would not be washable. But it was be softer (and more expensive). This is a perfect day-to-day piece to own. I’ll get another in black.
