Gathered silk midi dress

The white silk fabric took dye amazingly well. I didn’t have use for bridal white, but will wear this vivid green. The lining became robins egg blue- a bonus! The fit is true to size. I will put a crinoline under it for some volume so it’s OK the skirt isn’t lined. The whole dress had to go through the washer twice as part of the dying process and held up . Easy to iron - it’s very well-made.

This is so oddly shaped and weird. The fabric is beautiful but the fit is absurd. I unfortunately bought this on a final sale and JCrew will do nothing to help me! Save your money or look for something else.

While the fabric is lovely on this dress and I even like the fit, WHY didn't you line the bottom of the dress! I got it in the Ivory color and while the top part is lined the bottom isn't and completely see thru. Very disappointing and unfortunately its final sale and so I can't return it.

Different strokes for different folks but this dress is getting a bad rap. It is lovely on and has an ethereal feel. Is it a practical dress? Definitely not but then I’m not planning on wearing to Sunday brunch or the grocery store. This is a special occasion dress plain and simple. The silk has a lovely hand but it is thin so proper undergarments are a must. The skirt is more billowy as opposed to large. When I unpacked it, yes it was wrinkled but that’s to be expected since it’s silk which is not permanent press fabric. I’m accustomed to ironing so no issues there. As for how sweat could affect it, I’ve yet to find a silk that worked well with sweat and I should know as I live in Florida where higher temps and humidity are the norm even in December (it’s currently 80) . It has a deep v at the front but this just means you might want to employ many of the alternatives available like double sided tape or covers to eliminate that “headlight” effect. I can’t wait to wear it this summer.

I ordered this dress to my local J.Crew after reading the reviews. I tried it on and the top had so much more material than the bottom of the dress. I already purchased shoes with the help of my fav J.Crew salesperson, so I bought the dress and went to Macy's to find something to go under the low neckline. When I pulled the dress out of the bag it was so wrinkled... So I sat down in the dressing room in the dress and stood back up and it was such a mess. I don't think this dress is made for sitting or heaven forbid sweating in! I have a tattoo that I could see it through the dress. I would have had to wear spanks all the way to my knees so my tattoo would show through. It is beautiful and I wanted so much to keep it but returned it in the same shopping trip. Stunning online, not practical for anything but standing.

This dress is absolutely stunning -- I love the color, style, fabric. BUT, I ordered the smallest size and it was massively too big. For reference I'm normally an XS and ordered the XXS. If your normal JCrew dress size is L or XL and you're able to get your hands on a XXS, then I'd say go for it. Really was sad to see the off-sizing on this one, since the dress itself is so beautiful!
