Ruffle-trim stretch cotton poplin mini dress in gingham

Based on the reviews that it was very short I ordered a 16 and I'm glad I did, I am usually a size 10 or 12 in JCrew. The 16 fit me about 2 inches above the knee which it is short given that the dress is a size 16. The top fit perfectly and I am small in the top and curvy bottom and the bottom of the dress was super baggy. So to summarize, if I was someone who normally wears a size 16 it would have been way too tight at the top. If you don't have your own sewing machine or a good tailor you should really think it through before buying. I am keeping it because I can alter the bottom myself. I gave it 4 stars because in spite of the sizing, it is a super cute and fun dress to wear in the summer and loove that it is lined! and the sale price was right!

I was going back and forth between an 8 and 10, and decided that because this is 100% cotton, I would go with the 10 to accommodate my large 36 DDD recent postpartum chest. It fits great across the bust with the stretchy panel and throughout the dress, but the straps are a tad loose. I'm 5'4 and it's definitely a mini length. The lining is a nice touch and because it's not terribly tight or see through I can wear normal undergarments. Looking forward to wearing it this weekend on my little island getaway!

This dress could not be any cuter or better for summer. I have all 3 colors and love the lightness of the weight of the dress for summer. I live in Florida and with the heat I would have preferred it without the satin lining which makes you feel like you've been wrapped in cellophane. The issue each of my 3 dresses has is the straps. I have had to have this one altered twice. The straps are too long, but also over to the side which makes the straps drop, which is probably the idea but it doesn't look right with the straps dropped to your upper arm. I still love the dress and appreciate the shorter length.

I hesitated initially on this dress, being petite without a petite option I was concerned that it would be too long and pricey to hem. Glad I tried it on and gave it a go. It is lined, and the length is perfect. I can understand taller reviewers considering it too short. For reference, I am just about 5' tall, about 115lbs and the 6 fit beautifully. I like the fact that it has the extra touch of snaps in the straps to keep your bra straps in place. A little detail that is needed as the straps on the dress are a little long, but with these straps, it kept the dress from falling off my shoulders. The ruffles are not too overwhelming, and adds a bit of whimsey to a very figure flattering dress.

I wore it for the first time yesterday and got so many compliments. I ordered the 4 and 6, and kept the 4. I now realize that in Jcrew dresses, I am a 4. I bought a dress last year and the same thing happened with sizing. In other brands, I am a 6 or even an 8, so really get to know your measurements and the fit of the manufacturer.

I have always had an issue with J Crew dresses as they seem meant for only very tall people. This dress is perfect for me! Well, almost. It is at the seamstress getting the straps shortened as they were way too long, but I can live with this one issue that needs fixing. I ordered the orange in a 0 and it was perfect other than the straps, and the length is just right. I usually am a size 2, but the 0 was just right and what I like it that it is not a thick fabric or lined, so just a nice light summer dress that you can dress up or down. They are now on sale and going to order the black and thinking about the checkered pattern.
