Slightly Disappointing
May 9, 2022This dress has a slit that runs up pretty high which was not a problem. The pattern of the dress was rather basic making the dress look more like a nightgown than a nice dress. I think in order to wear this dress outside you would ned to heavily accessorize it. The fabric is lightweight which is perfect for a summer day. The sleeves run slightly large.

Such a versatile dress!
May 6, 2022This is the third smocked dress I’ve bought from J Crew this month. It’s so versatile and comfortable, and is easily dressed up or down. I do wish the sleeves were a bit longer and/or less puffy as they draw attention to my somewhat flabby upper arms. But that’s just me. Love it though.

Smocking is very flattering
March 21, 2022I love this dress! I’m 5’4”, 125 pounds, smaller on top with 32DD/DDD bra size. I had to size down to an XS because the neck and shoulders are huge. I took off one star because the shoulders are huge and I’m not sure how I’m going to keep them up. As one other reviewer mentioned on the other color of this dress, a bra probably won’t be an option, so I’ll have to wear the sticky bra things for lift (I’m 46 and nursed a baby, so need the lift, but some people may be able to get away without a bra because the smocking can help). Overall, this dress is MUCH more flattering than it looks on the hanger, and I think it’s a great combination of cute and a little bit sexy. I think I’ll be wearing it a lot.

Cute Idea, Awkward Execution
March 13, 2022I really wanted to love this dress, but there are a few issues that prevented it. First and foremost is the neckline. Good grief, is it WIDE! The neckline actually extended all the way into my armpits, which was not at all flattering and would have made wearing a bra with it difficult. The model is tall and has a wide chest so the cut fits her well, but for us mere mortals (non-models) the neckline just doesn't work. The second is the smocking. It is too long and ends on the widest part of your ribcage, thus drawing the eye to the widest part of your torso. It really should either end below the bust or more towards the waist. Finally, the length is a bit long. I heard several people describe the whole effect (smocking + puff sleeves + length) as "too Little House on the Prairie" and unfortunately I must agree. It was a cute idea, but needed some tweaks to be successful.
